5.0 out of 5 stars Draper vacuum brake bleeder
Very good quality piece of kit. Easy to operate and does the job extremely well indeed. I used it on the linked brakes on a Honda Blackbird M/Cycle which saved a lot of stress and cost too. Highly recommended. Plethora of connection devices and pressure adaptors for vacuum testing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally useless. Do not buy for brake/clutch bleeding
New clutch master cylinder - always a bleeding problem (if I may say so). Excited by new purchase. Extremely disappointed. Strongly recommend that you buy a 'one man bleed kit' (essentially a one-way valve) at a fraction of the price. That did the trick. What is wrong with this? Essentially it just sucks air into the system via the nipple, even though you have greased the...

Great product does exactly what it says on the tin. For those struggling, check out Youtube, there are many demonstrations of how to use one and instructions are not needed.

What you will need to know is the particular order that is best for your vehicle. Normally its Rear Left, Rear Right, Front Left, Front Right. You will also benefit by having a Brake Pedal Jack and depressing the pedal all the way to the floor during the whole operation and releasing on completion.

My only issue with this device is the size of the bottle...rather small for bleeding a car system. I emptied it several times...messy!!

You could also buy Sealey VS020 and modify the compressor fitting so that you can attach a vacuum cleaner...a few people on Youtube have used vacuum cleaners to draw fluid out and once you understand the principle of how the bleed kit works its pretty simple to find household things to use.

Essentially it just sucks air into the system via the nipple, even though you have greased the nipple like everybody says you need to (check out the posts). Other issues? Pump failed totally after two days. Had to dismantle it and grease very flimsy rubber washer to restore some vacuum. Fluid bottle is useless. You have to put it into something (I used a jam jar) to stop it falling over, otherwise fluid gets into the pump and damages it. It is so small you need to keep emptying it, and when your hands are slippery with brake fluid it is quite hard to refit it properly. And to cap it all it is painted with a paint that is affected by brake fluid and comes off all over your hands. Yes, the pump is nicely built in brass (except for the flimsy vacuum washer which is NOT AVAILABLE as a spare (despite what the company promises) but what's the point when it doesn't do the jiob?
REALLY. DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. ITEM

Very useful tool, not much to add to the other positive reviews other than a link to an instruction manual which tells you how to bleed brakes and other things. Search for "draper expert 68714 manual pdf v8".

5.0 out of 5 stars Paid for itself in one use - Recommended, 11 Feb 2012

The tool arrived in a familiar blow moulded plastic box. A box no bigger than it needed to be but with room for the included accessories and bits and pieces you might add in the future.

The tool itself is well made in heavy, well painted, die cast metal with brass fittings. The vacuum gauge is large, clearly marked in inches and centimetres of mercury, and protected by a rubber shroud. Quite impressive and solid quality for the money.

The pump worked as expected and for the price of half an hour of a mechanic's time I was able to test the actuators on the turbo, vacuum valves, and EGR valve of my Skoda TDI.

A bargain really. It has paid for itself in one use - anything more would be a bonus. In the box is a 120ml container for fluids, two 18" lengths of clear plastic tubing and a dozen plastic connectors. If you are planning to use it to bleed brakes you will need to empty the container at least once on each wheel. The option is there though.

The kit lacks a tee piece connector that would have been useful to "listen in" to the vacuum running in a tube whilst the engine was running. In addition the plastic pipes are too short and stiff to be really useful so I bought a four foot length of rubber automotive vacuum tubing. That done, the kit is perfect. Five stars.

However, there are no instructions, even though the lid of the box has the usual slot for them. A curious omission in an age when, as Douglas Adams pointed out, even tooth picks come with instructions. When used in conjunction with a workshop manual the pump will be self explanatory but cobbling the DIY brake bleeder together clearly deserves more.

A hammer doesn't come with instructions so I suppose it deserves the five stars in spite of this omission.

This is a very well made piece of kit. The pump provides good suction and makes bleeding brakes a doddle. I bought additional lengths of hose at a DIY store so that I can use the pump for water and brake fluid without contaminating. The case is strong and keeps everything clean and tidy. Recommended.

Draper's vacuum pump is a high quality tool, it helped me check for vacuum bleeds in the EGR valve and turbo actuator of my VW TDI.

Item comes in blow moulded case which was plenty space inside for the numerous adapters and tubes. The 'gun' is solidly designed and worth that little bit more because of that.
One concern is the plastic canister which is a bit flimsy. It be be useful to be able to buy spares of these in case it becomes broken by accident.

Having carried out numerous brake bleeding/changes using these methods: two person and pressurised brake reservoir, the Draper Vac tool was the least messy and easiest way by far. One tip: be sure to seal the section of thread between the nipple and brake calliper when it's slackened to ensure vacuum is maintained, otherwise the hand pump will need to be continually pumped.

Excelent device for one man brake bleeding.
Plus: With one charge of vacuum you can pull one can of fluid. Pressure release vacuum knob.
Minus: The fluid can is kind of small. The brake caliper nipple connectors are not that good... It's better to use the tubes.
