`Kajagoogoo' were a promising band that had their first hit at the very beginning of 1983 - and it went to number one: `Too Shy'. Despite this catchy little number, I, myself much preferred their third single from this album: `Hang On Now' which will always remind me of the long hot summer of 1983. I believe had this track been released as their first single, it would have probably been a chart-topper also, but by its official release, most people had already got in on the album. The 12" single mix is great of this particular song too!
This fabulous album first came to my attention whilst helping some friends out in a Record Store way back in `83, and one of them kept placing this LP on the turntable. This was before CDs had become widely available, and this album was one of very few LPs that were still being issued in very expensive laminate covers at the time.
Despite a string of hit singles which had taken them into 1984 - including two more Top Forty hits from their subsequent album `Islands' - like many promising new bands; Kajagoogoo soon disappeared...
A distinct 1980s sound that will always be remembered fondly - and every track a real gem! The album peaked at Number Five in the UK Albums Chart.
NOTE: Ant & Dec recently in a comment on the TV show: `I'm a Celebrity' hinted at Kajagoogoo only having had the one hit `Too Shy' - not only was this incorrect, (they had five - big difference) - they were far better songs than the crap they were turning out years later...
