In a world of faceless pop wannabes and Rock which seems to concentrate purely on the negative, It's a breathe of fresh air to hear something as catchy and tuneful as it is powerful. Theres no one around like Survivor anymore, except perhaps the excellent Pride Of Lions, and Jim Peterik is involved in that anyway. This album will serve anyone interested as a great introduction to one of the best bands to be labelled AOR.
All of their albums are represented, with a roughly equal split between the early Dave Bickler material and the later Jimi Jamison era. Songs such as High On You, Is This Love and Desperate Dreams blasting out of the stereo make you feel like your cruising the american highways on a hot summer afternoon, it's pure feel good music. Caught in the Game, Didn't Know It Was Love and Poor Man's Son show their heavier side, while Eye Of The Tiger and Burning Heart need know introduction.
Survivor make you feel good, its that simple. Buy It!

I had always thought of Survivor as 'Burning Heart' and 'Eye of the Tiger' A band that were perhaps quite heavy with a very non descript sound. I was however turned around on them having watched Mall cop and heard the beautiful 'I can't hold back' This track reminded me of early Def Leppard or Foreigner, but with an authentic raw emotional sound.

I bought the album on the strengh of this and was blown away. The album combines ballad rock, with more up tempo beats and yet is has a classic rock edge. Some of the tracks made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, whilst for others I could not help but dance. I think Survivor have taken over as one of the best rock influences in my collection

Like many other people in Britain I suppose, I initially only knew two songs by the American rock band Survivor. The pair were both those 'Rocky' movie themes: 'Eye Of The Tiger' and 'Burning Heart' (which were actually their only UK hit singles). However, there is lots more to love about this group once you begin dig into the Survivor's back catalogue, and realise that the 'Eye of the Tiger' was far from their greatest song.

This excellent compilation opened my ears to many other great tunes: including the upbeat feel-goodness of 'American Heartbeat', 'High on You', the power ballad 'Man Against The World', and my personal favourites: 'Didn't Know It Was Love' and 'Summer Nights'. The CD's booklet is practically worth the price of the album alone, it's packed with photographs, and made for very interesting reading, Survivor had the grand total eight top 40 hits in the US. It was also particularly rewarding to read about the band's personal memories of each of the songs.

'Ultimate Survivor' is an excellent introduction to an underrated band, the quality of the music is so good that I am going to buy some of their original albums. If you only know them for the one song - you have lots more classic rock music to hear..

Throughout this year, I have become a massive fan of AOR. With the rubbish that is released today, it's good to see that the 80's is making a come back, with bands such as Sunstorm, H.E.A.T., Eclipse and Hardline presenting modern "hair metal" to the new generation. Nevertheless, as great as these bands do in recreating the authentic cheese, I thought I would try out an actual group from the 80's decade itself.

Of course, who hasn't heard of Survivor?!! They feature on both the Rocky 3 and 4 soundtracks, and that's enough to make the "King of Nobody's" famous!! However, it's all very well citing two songs from their career, but it's very hard to judge a band when you've got so many gaps to fill in their discography. Listening to this album has made me really appreciate this band. Every song appeals to me, and it's an album I simply can't stop listening to. Journey recently made a comeback, but it would be great to see the new generation truly come to appreciate the AOR music genre by embracing Survivor. Arguably, nobody does it better! Bring on the ROCK!!!!

If you only knew about "Eye of the Tiger" and "Burning Heart" and want some more, this compilation will suit your needs perfectly.

I have to say, though, that I didn't expect there to be as many ballads as there were. But that was just a surprise and not a bad thing at all, since all the songs are great.

The liner notes are excellent and go deep and are very interesting to read. This is the reason why I still favour CD's instead of digital downloads; it's just nice to have a neat little booklet to read the notes in.

If you like 80's music such as Foreigner, Asia and Styx, or rock music general, it's well worth your time.

I have owned this CD for around 7 years now after wanting to explore more of Survivor's material.

After a few listens you will be hooked on the classic tracks other than the obvious 'Eye of The Tiger' and 'Burning Heart'

Tracks like 'I Can't Hold Back' and 'High On You' are '80's rock perfection. This would be a great edition to any rock fan's collection and continues to be one of my favourite CD's. Both Survivor and Jimi Jamison are extremely underrated as a band and vocalist

Highly Recommended!

Just a great solid rock album from an excellent rock band. Sums up 80's rock to a tee. Survivor have a very distinctive sound and this is a brilliant album.
Highly recommended.
