4.0 out of 5 stars blown away, 12 July 2004
This review is from: Diam (Audio CD)
well i first saw 'Daby' supporting peter gabriel (3 times this year) and was blown away by the energy he put into his songs, Pete really chose well to have daby as a warm up act. i dont know how anyone sat still while he danced/ran round the stage with his guitar! we may not have understood the lyrics but the music flowed soo well a real crowd pleaser.
iv just got the album and.. it may be 8 am but its got me dancing away to it straight away almost as good on disc as live.
the first 2 track are my favs, but the whole albub is great, another super production from 'realworld records'
the only draw back is the lack of info about Daby in the sleeve, but if you do want to find out more about him you can at the realworld web site, or if like me just look in your program from the PG ' still growing up' program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diam - An outstanding debut, 19 Aug 2004
This review is from: Diam (Audio CD)
For many the name Daby Toure is not yet as familiar as those of Baaba Maal and Youssou N'Dour, but for this rising star of the West Africa music scene his debut album Diam is a fresh and exciting collection of songs which are both contemporary in feel without losing sight of the proud musical heritage of his homeland of Mauritania.
Daby is a member of the Toure family which have been major contributors in the raising the profile of region sometimes overwhelmed by the established giants of the Senegalese music scene.
His own album is imbued with an unmistakable originality and freshness that on the first listening one is struck by his energy and an honesty that is rarely heard in any music genre.
This an album I personally can't stop playing, and each time more and more depth is revealed to the listener like an unfolding box of treasures.
His soulful voice is sensitively balanced by his rhythmic guitar playing, vibrant, but yet warm. The production has the clarity and depth that brings out all of the subtly of the music rather than overwhelming it.
Daby Toure has been recognised by Peter Gabriel as an artist of both originality and energy so much so that he invited him to support him on his recent tour.
This album is a shining example of "World Music" at its best, this is musician that deserves to break the chains of categorization and to be listened to by a wide an audience as possible.
My advice is to buy this album as soon as possible and start enjoying this rare talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caution CD Copy Protection on this CD, 15 Nov 2006
By
Paul (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diam (Audio CD)
This CD says it has a copy protection system on it but I was able to load it into iTunes, so perhaps it's a watered down version.

Fantastic album, though.
