5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant!
Just buy this album and listen to it. If you have not yet heard Jonathan Richman then you are one lucky person who is in for a major treat. This artist is a totally unique genius who writes and sings funny, poignant and beautiful songs that display limitless love and compassion for human beings in all their fantastic complexity and simplicity. 3.0 out of 5 stars Quirky Curates Egg
Jonathon Richman hits both ends of the spectrum, the good is very good, the poor is pretty poor.

An album best saved to the MP3 player and then edited to leave the good ones.

Will then become a definite 4.5 stars!

Morning of our Lives is a classic.

All the goodies from years gone by are present. It even includes the live, protracted "Ice Cream Man" which is always a pleasure to hear

4.0 out of 5 stars Jonathan Richman as I remember him from my youth years, 8 Feb 2011
This review is from: Roadrunner, Roadrunner: The Beserkley Colection (Audio CD)
Finally the CD with the Jonathan Richman songs I had been looking for. They are all there. A reel collection of uncomplicated feel good songs, unlike another CD I had purchased without looking into the track list.

4.0 out of 5 stars a unique musical nutcase, very weird and slightly wonderful, 22 Jan 2012
This review is from: Roadrunner, Roadrunner: The Beserkley Colection (Audio CD)
This guy is the epitome of musical cult. He is weirdly wonderful and at the same time not very good.He cant sing and a lot of the songs are pap. What makes him so brilliant is his sheer exuberance, even while churning out the ridculous tunes and lyrics. Its not a track on this album, but who else could get away with "What once was a puppy is now a dog/what once was a piglet is now a hog" The best track of course is the eternal Roadrunner. These are simple songs enjoyable for their daftness more than anything else.Richman came to the fore when the punk movement allowed the wacky, unpretentious and often untalented to thrive. John Peel played his Abominable Snowman in the Market and said it sounded as if it was recorded in a kitchen. Maybe it was. But he remains, still making albums and playing his weird little songs. If you dont like his stuff, i can understand that, but if you are looking for strange ditties with no depth or real meaning, a little levity and daftness, a lack of cynicism and a dose of optimism in a serious world, this is it.

Who does he sound like? No one else really. Perhaps a cheerful and child-like Belle and Sebastian.
