4.0 out of 5 stars Rik and Ade at their best

4.0 out of 5 stars Rik and Ade at their best, 6 Sep 2000

This compilation contains in my opinion the best episodes of the Bottom -series. Naturally all of the episodes are full of slapstick, disgust, misunderstandings and despair, but what makes some of the episodes absolutely amazing is the creativity they reflect. Take a look at the episode "Culture", especially the last ten minutes of it (Chess has never been more hilarious!), or "Holy", where Richie gradually realizes the reason for his lack of sexual experiences. Although some of the episodes lower the rating, this is definetly best Britcom ever produced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bottom 2: Revenge of the killer arse, 7 Sep 2005
This review is from: Bottom - Series 2 [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
Rik and Ade returned to the screens to save us all from the dry and middle class wit of many poor quality shows that were around at the time. They didnt let us down either. The characters of Eddie and Richie were slightly more defined, the violence was slightly more gratuitous and the foulness that they created wherever they went was slightly more foul.
A truly great series and a fantastic successor to the young ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bottom's up for Richie and Eddie!, 18 Sep 2004
This review is from: Bottom - Series 2 [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
Richie and Eddie return in Bottom series 2. The DVD comes complete with all 6 uncut episodes including the extented version of Holy which was cut for the TV show (and VHS tape for some reason). It also comes with 30 minutes of uncensored outtakes (throw away your Bottom Fluffs tape) and extended scenes (one long scene from Digger and 2 scenes from Holy which are on the Holy extended).
Although this series isn't as funny as series 3. This is sure to keep u laughing for hours.

4.0 out of 5 stars great duo workings from Richie and Eddy, 31 Mar 2012
This review is from: Bottom - Series 2 [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
Not a lot more to say beyond what has already been said- Rik Mayal and Adrian Edmundson work incredibly well together, this can be seen from 'The Young Ones' and 'The Comic Strip'. They really show they can pull off a two man show in 'Bottom' however. To be honest they don't really need any aid or help from extras to either keep the story going or keep the entirity of what they're doing funny. A perfect example is the live shows, where they litterally are the only people working before the crowd.

Season two of 'Bottom' goes from strength to strength and anyone who knows of them has various classics that come instantly to mind. The violence explodes across the screen, and Eddy and Richie are equally likeable/detestable in their own unique ways- this is probably the one amazing feat of 'Bottom' that we get, that Eddy and Richie are actual characters and you earn either for them to have their heads smashed in or get their ends away.

This is a Great British classic, and a lot funnier than the dry, boring, mundane rubbish made these days.

Would probably be banned or taken off air in the modern sanitized and politically correct times. As funny as ever and sorely missed if you haven't got the shows on dvd.

Trying to review Bottom in a thoughtful, introspective way is like a blunt pencil shoved up Eddie Hitler's nose - pointless and painful. But I'll give it a try nonetheless.
This is the second of three series and as always Richie and Eddie are in fine form. Guest-starring are Helen Lederer (in best "I so hate poor peepill" Transylvanian countess mode, giving Michael Howard a run for his money with that accent!), Julia Sawalha and Robert Llewellyn trying to resist Richie's charms, as well as Christopher "Mike the Cool Person" Ryan making a return visit as Eddie's mate Dave Hedgehog. In other episodes Richie and Eddie go it alone, during an all-night game of chess and a camping trip to Wimbledon Common; the line "I wonder how much meat you get on a womble" almost beating the quip about "vodka margarine" which is rolled out on cue at our family Christmases ever since the first airing of the show.
The only downside is the special extended version of Holy - not that it's not a great episode, but the scene with Richie's self-portrait was (deservedly) cut from the original broadcast, yet it is inserted into the main episode here *and* the Bottom Fluffs extra, which was unnecessary. However the star I would have taken off for this goes back on because the BF on this DVD is much longer than the one on the first series.
