4.0 out of 5 stars Spice up your record collection, 1 Oct. 2002
MF DOOM, the hiphop artist behind "Operation Doomsday", puts the mic down for a while and goes silent but deadly with this "special herbs and spices" instrumental record. I managed to pick this up very soon after it's release sometime in the spring, mainly because i knew that it was a limited edition release and would get snatched up by those who have heard DOOM's other works. The record is literally a collection of tracks designed for DJ use, for emcees to freestyle over or simply just for rare funky record collectors.
The tracks, some of which appear in some form or another on "Operation Doomsday", range from the jazzy "arrow root" (my personal favourite) to the 70s pop style "Fenugreek" to the classic wild style 80s hiphop sounding "Charnsuka", to the rugged twangy 60s spy series music on "Shallots".
If you love your obscure funky records and are into retro sounding interesting hiphop music, BUY THIS RECORD!!
It's worth it for the cover art alone, for the track titles (below) and for the fact that he calls one side "oranges" and the other side "apples"!!
MF DOOM is a true hiphop artist with a unique rap and production style, and a great imagination. Pick up "Operation Doomsday" if you haven't already, it's worth it for the skits alone.
I have listen the track titles below:
1 SAFFRON
2 ARROW ROOT
3 ZATAR
4 FENUGREEK
5 SUMAC BERRIES
6 CORIANDER
7 SHALLOTS
8 CHARUNSUKA
9 MONOSODIUM GLUTOMATE
