This very welcome re-issue contains the first two albums the ISB recorded for Island records. There are some curmudgeons who claim the ISB lost their way after 'The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter' a few years earlier. Believe them not! This very welcome re-issue contains the first two albums the ISB recorded for Island records. There are some curmudgeons who claim the ISB lost their way after 'The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter' a few years earlier. Believe them not! This double contains some really wonderful stuff and, being the String Band, it's stuff the like of which you'll find nowhere else. Tracks like 'Come With Me,' 'Vishangro,' 'Waiting for You,' 'Painted Chariot,' 'Red Hair' and 'Darling Belle' are pure gold - absolute gems one and all. The lengthy instrumental, 'Be Glad for the Song has no Ending,' weaves a magic of its own as each member of the band gets a chance to show off their talents on a wierd and wide array of instruments. The world is a better place for having these albums in it and your mind will be vastly enriched by allowing these tunes access to it via your ears.

4.0 out of 5 stars From a better time, 27 Nov. 2010

This era has been shamefully overlooked. Wonderful bands such as 'Quintessence', 'Amazing Blondel' and ISB rarely get mentioned now and there is much to commend an hour spend with any of these as an antidote to modern life. It's like an aural 'river cottage'.
Many believe the best work of the Incredible String Band was behind them by the time this was released, and in the case of 'Be Glad' (from this 2-cd compilation) they may be right. However, 'Liquid acrobat' is an absolute stunner. It contains several fine songs with the bookending tunes being the finest. It is their second most underrated album (Earthspan being there finest disregarded work).
Buy this and a bottle of wine (or rough cider), turn the lights down and forget about your pension deficit for an hour. This music comes from a better time.
