1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, 31 Dec 2004

MRS E M HARPER (COVENTRY, W. Midlands United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I bought this thinking how great it would be to have one cd with a representation of the music from all 3 films. But it is a pale shadow of the 'real thing'. For me, the soul and heart tugging character of the original recordings is painfully absent, so much that I am going back to buy the original music.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE - NOT FROM THE FILM, 21 April 2008

The other reviews are spot on. If you found an unlabelled copy of this CD you would never guess the connection to LOR. I was hugely dissapointed. This is like going to a Queen concert and getting a tribute band singing anything by Queen songs. If you like wallpaper music you may like it - elsewise beware - the tracks go ever on and on...

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak interpretation, 31 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this thinking it was a sort of "best of" from the soundtrack. Unfortunately it is a very weedy interpretation by someone called "The Big Movie Orchestra". I wouldn't call them an orchestra - it sounds like a few electronic synths and could be just one person multi-tracked!
Avoid like the plague!

1.0 out of 5 stars Torture..., 24 Aug 2009

This CD could have been entitled, "Your local primary school kids play themes from the Lord of the Rings". This CD is simply awful and you would not want to listen to it if they gave it away free.

Only buy this as a present ... for someone you REALLY dislike.

3.0 out of 5 stars Goodness what did you expect, 13 Oct 2012

I bought this album knowing full well what it was, yes it's not the original. However, the Orchestra do not do a bad job of the film score and they make a difference, the reading is a lot darker and less misty-eyed than other versions. The story of "Lord of the Rings" is not some childs fairy tale and the mood here is very fitting. Now I agree that the original soundtrack albums are the best but to merely trash this because it's not is strange. Many people have tried to interpret Tolkien's story and all have brought someting new to the mix. Stephen Oliver's music for the BBC production is unjustly ignored and both Patrice Deceunick and Mary Jean Holmes should have a wider audience. As far as I'm concerned the more music the better.
