Les Savy Fav love you. Or at least that's what the booklet says, they probably just want your money, but you should definately hand it over, no questions asked, because here is a punk band that hasn't 'sold out', that likes to expiriment, and can play it's instruments to a Grade 5 standard.
The C.D. is a compilation of singles and 7 inches since the conception of the band, and rather cleverly, has been planned right from the start so that the artwork makes up pieces of a puzzle. The great thing about the albums chronological order is we can map the albums progress; from shouty US punk (Rodeo), and angular guitar anthems (Our Coastal Hymn) to their current day artiness (check the synth bleeps and sampling on Meet Me in the Dollar Bin).
In between that we have everything from spoken word pieces(such as on the slightly too long Reformat) to more poppy moments (We'll Make a Lover Out of You) although the usual fare is high speed rock music in the manner of a four-piece band. This album showcases a refreshing variety which can be very hard to find, especially on albums as long as this. And for those of you lucky enough to place your order quickly enough, you'll receive a free DVD which includes commentaries, videos and photos, useful for fleshing out the image of the band, especially if you're a new-comer such as myself.
And finally, they're a band with interesting things to say, the lead singer reeling off potent imagery in his acidic screams and lustful whispers. So much so, you'll take the time to read the lyric booklet. Enjoy!
