Howard Tate's story is amazing (popular in 60s then left music industry because he was ripped off by promoters and music companies, lost a daughter in a house fire, lost his wife, lost his house and turned to alcohol and drugs and ended up living on the street for 10 years...he managed to turn himself around and finally got tracked down and pulled back to the studio by his old producer, Jerry Ragavoy (writing legend - "Time is On My Side", "Piece of my Heart") and has finally recorded the masterpiece we've all been waiting for. It has even more depth and emotion than any of his previous recordings - I think the reason for this is obvious in view of his life story! Also features a track written by Elvis Costello who I understand is a very big fan of Howard....fantastic....buy this album...it's an absolute classic!

I was in my friend's record store earlier and was so blown away by an album that I heard that I bought it without even hearing the rest of the tracks and what a remarkable disc it is too. Howard Tate was a soul marvel in the 60's but never got the attention he fully deserved and after cutting a few more albums, culminating in his swan song album from 1974, he disappeared off the face of the Earth.
Many thought he was dead, in fact on many levels he was. He suffered the death of his daughter, watched his marriage crumble, ended up as a vagrant and began using. He then turned his life over to God and got himself back on his feet. He was rediscovered only recently (2001) and this is his comeback album and what a fine return to form it is.
Born in 1938, his voice could have faltered but it's all there, the silky smooth soul voice and the swooping, heartfelt falsetto. Do yourself a favour and listen to the real R&B/Soul sound, not the rubbish that passes for it today. Welcome back Mr Tate and this time, may you be rewarded for your efforts.

What a comeback album from 60s soul legend! Howard has been lost to the musical world for 30 years and has come back in big style...he has an amazing story to tell about the tough life he's led since walking out on music years ago and the feeling in the songs on this album testify what he's been through...reunited with the talented songwriter, Jerry Ragavoy ('Time Is On My Side', 'Piece of my Heart') and even includes a song written especially for Howard by Elvis Costello ( who is a big fan)...if you like soul, I strongly recommend this CD!

I heard an interview on Radio 2 with Howard Tate and was really touched by the story of his life (he really has been through some very hard times!), I decided to buy his album and I'm very glad that I did...it's fantastic!! This man has an amazing voice, rivalling any of the soul greats from the 60s...I am so glad Howard has been found!

I went out an bought Howard Tate's album after one of my friends played me "Get it while you can" and made me cry!
This album, to put it simply is a masterpiece! I'm not really a big soul fan generally speaking but this album has really touched me. Howard's voice is so sincere and genuine. Each song is like a story being told, something really special. I definately recommend this album to any music fan, no matter what genre you prefer. Artists like this are few and far between and need all the support they can get
