5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT PRICE FOR TWO ARCADE GAMES
Faithfully reproduced these two classic platform games offer great value for money and will keep you entertained for hours.
Both of the games ran with no problems (yes I do use XP). I had my virus checker do a full system scan whilst playing Bubble Bobble with no crashes, but the game does require 128mb of system memory which is why some people may have found the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes works, often doesn't
My children completely LOVED Bubble Bobble, and so did I. So a copy of the game, said to run in Windows XP, was just what I wanted. And when it works, the magic is back, the music, the silliness, the sheer fun of it, GREAT. WHEN it works. Mostly it doesn't run. The screen freezes, the keyboard ignores you, and you find yourself longing for the ALWAYS WORK EVERYTIME state...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes works, often doesn't, 19 Jun. 2004
This review is from: Bubble Bobble & Rainbow Islands - Xplosiv Range (Video Game)
The screen freezes, the keyboard ignores you, and you find yourself longing for the ALWAYS WORK EVERYTIME state of affairs that consoles give you. My advice -- oh, buy it, but be prepared to utter some unfortunate expletives at the screen on a fairly regular basis.
Rainbow Island always runs, no problems, but it isnt Bubble Bobble and that's that.

I had my virus checker do a full system scan whilst playing Bubble Bobble with no crashes, but the game does require 128mb of system memory which is why some people may have found the game unstable. All in all a great bargain that is too good to miss.

2.0 out of 5 stars Vista compatibility issues, 26 Dec. 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bubble Bobble & Rainbow Islands - Xplosiv Range (Video Game)
No qualms about the game itself - anyone buying this already knows what they want from the game. Echoing other comments I will say that when it works correctly it is exactly what you are looking for - Rainbow Islands and Bubble Bobble as you remember them. However I have found that when running this on a Vista PC (already a mistake I know) the whole affair is woeful.

For some reason, the Vista PC mostly decides that even with the 'skip frames' option checked, the game should be played at one third normal speed. Everything slows down, and the whole experience is destroyed - the music of course can't be slowed in this manner, so you have two bars of music, then it reverts back a bar and a half and starts from there again - a skipping, stutttering, amnesiac's melody - for as long as you decide to continue in your futile effort to play a fondly remembered childhood game. No compatibility mode I have yet found alleviates these problems, so if you're buying this, make sure it's not on Vista.

This is the ultimate in retro gaming. I grew up on these games and have been after shareware or emulator versions but nothing has come close to the original - until now. This is great value and will brighten up your day! Sheer brilliance

It is really nice to bring back old happy childhood memories ;) Just miss the "unlimited lifes option" like Commodore 64 games had.
