5.0 out of 5 stars Every summer needs an album ,,,,,, 1 Mar. 2001

Joy Zipper - Joy Zipper Every summer needs an album, every golden moment needs a soundtrack and this dreamy, shimmery classic will make you think it's July when it's really November. iD magazine said it sounds like "Kim and Thurston from Sonic Youth reciting Pet Sounds to each other as pillow talk" - and they were absolutely right. It's sunny and it's happy, but it's also strangely wistful and melancholy; no-one since the Doors has made such a strange brew. Joy Zipper have taken bits of Beck, the Throwing Muses and a Californian beach at sunset and mixed up a very special album indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars great debut, 4 Nov. 2008

I love Joyzipper. To sum it up quickly, this isn't as good as the other two albums they later went on to release, but it is still great. It's a kind of psychadelic acoustic indie pop? type style that is perfect to laze back at and listen to the world go by. Buy!

Every summer needs an album, every golden moment needs a soundtrack and this dreamy, shimmery classic will make you think it's July when it's really November.

In fact, if you are one of those unfortunate people who suffers from the light-deficiency syndrome SAD, don't waste your money on one of those cumbersome floodlight dealies - buy this instead. It gives off so much deep, red, evening sunshine you'll need to keep it in a light-tight box, or else it'll keep the kids awake at night.

iD magazine said it sounds like "Kim and Thurston from Sonic Youth reciting Pet Sounds to each other as pillow talk" - and they were absolutely right.

It's sunny and it's happy, but it's also strangely wistful and melancholy; no-one since Love or The Doors has made such a strange brew - and if you are a fan of Love's Forever Changes, then this will be right up your street ... or Hollywood Boulevard.

Joy Zipper have taken bits of all your favourite bands, plus a Californian beach at sunset, and mixed up a very special album indeed.

Their other albums are fantastic, but this album is GREAT.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite, 20 Jun. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Joy Zipper (Audio CD)
This album is definitely my favorite of the year. Every song feels like it was meant to be there. "Everyday" is intense, "Transformation Fantasy" is suttle and disco-esque, "Christine Bonilla" moves, and "Pillow" and "Check Out My New Jesus" are just plain great. Thank you.

This record is beautiful, like a whisical, dreamy, floaty american cousin to If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle and Sebastian.
