I received my Epilator today, and thought I would have a quick try and ended up defuzzing both of my legs fully! It took me a while (probably 2 hours with rests for cleaning the epilator) but I have very dark, coarse hair. I think it shouldn't take so long with repeated use.
I think the key to less pain, is to use this when hairs are shorter (this is recommended in the instruction booklet). I had left the hair on my thighs to grow fairly long in preparation for waxing, but I thought I would try this out anyway, and it worked well although I think it was more painful because the hairs were longer. I trimmed my bikini line with scissors before epilating and that helped.
I did try it very briefly on my underarms but that was tooooo painful, but then I find underarm waxing excrutiating.
I owned an Epilady many years ago, used it once, and vowed never to use an epilator again, but I must say that I will definitely not be bothering to get my legs waxed again. I will try and persevere with my underarms (maybe if I get very drunk the next time???). I think if you are used to waxing, you will be able to cope with this, at least YOU can control this.
Super product at a great price. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

A great Epilator and for a reasonable price. I have just used this for the first time and must admit it was much easier and less painful than I imagined.
You must hold it correctly as shown in the leaflet and I had done one leg in just 15 mins. It feels similar to the waxing sensation and once its done yes you have a little stinging sensation just like after waxing, but this soon disappears.
I was watching the hairs coming out and I saw the root which I am very pleased about as its obviously doing exactly what it says on the box!!!
The downside with this epilator is the noise, it isnt very quiet. Also the hair falls to the floor as you are doing it so having a towel on the floor is a good idea or a hoover to clear up afterwards.
But overall I am very happy with the results from the first use and totally recomend to anyone to purchase this item. I cant see why you would need the more expensive versions as they all do the same job so in my opinion this is great value for money.

Ladies, if you shave your legs every day and are fed up with stubble and peeling suntan, look no further. I had high hopes for this and every one has been surpassed! It's quick, clean and extremely easy to use. The hairs are pulled out in such a way that it's not painful, just the odd pulling sensation here and there (though I admit doing armpits brought tears to my eyes, so am sticking with the razor until I steel myself to do it properly). Other reviewers have recommended a rough mitt or body scrub to avoid in-growing hairs. I agree, plus it's a good idea to rough up the hairs before you use the epilator to get the best result. I now have to 'do' my legs about once a week to 10 days. Yes, you can feel the regrowth, but it's not like the usual shaver stubble because it's so slow growing and consists of far fewer hairs - yes, this machine creates less regrowth. I cannot praise this highly enough - it's life changing! The only observation is it's very noisy and has to be plugged into the mains.

I bought this model to replace my mid-90s Braun Silk-Epil, which conked out after a mere decade. I used my old one regularly with no problems, but I have really noticed the difference in the newer model. There is a real reduction in pain, and I didn't think it was that bad on the last one - I'm used to epilators anyway, having started on the 80s Epilady (and that did hurt!). I am so impressed. I can now do my bikini line without having to feel slightly masochistic and girding my loins. I would recommend it to anyone.
It's also good value. In another decade or so when I replace this one I expect it will feel like being pelted with marshmallows.

Bought this Epilator couple of weeks ago, heard all the horror stories of how painful they can be, but on using it was very surprised that its no where near as bad as I thought, I would say its not even as bad as waxing. Tried the underarms with no problems whatsoever. I highly recommend this product, im constantly raving to my friends about it. Dont waste your money on more expensive epilators, the Braun SP3170 works just as well, if not better!

I received my new epilator just the other day, and straight away got to work on my legs, It didn't hurt half as much as I expected and left them lovely and smooth, (I reccomend an ideal lenghth of 2mm, to prevent the painful plucking sensation). I am yet to tackel the bikin line, but hope to do so soon. The results last around 16 days, far more economical then shaving, on the whole, I thouroughly recommend it!

When I started using this epilator I found that the hairs grew back within a few days each time, so I was quite disappointed. However, I persevered, and after 2 months of use, they suddenly stopped growing back and now I have smooth legs for about 4 weeks! So if you are finding the same problem, please don't give up because it does work in the end! The SP3170 Solo is great and removes the hairs efficiently and with continued use, relatively painlessly. I would recommend it, especially as it is just as good as more expensive models.

This is the first epilator Ive tried and all i can say is "why didn't I get one sooner?"!!! After spending every morning shaving my legs I knew I had to do someting, but the cost of waxing was a huge turn-off, so an epilator it was.
To be honest I was a bit surprised when I turned it on. The noise was a little scary but after plucking up the courage to start my legs I didnt know what the fuss was all about! It'a a little uncomfortable around the sensitive areas but it's just a scratching sensation everywhere else.
To anyone who is new to epilating, this model is perfect. If a wimp like me can happily use it then anyone can! Personally, I dont see much point in buying an expensive product when this cheaper model does such a fantastic job!

I bought an epilator years ago when they first came out - I tried it once and it was so painful and so ineffective that I took it straight back. I had read recently that they have come on over the years so I thought I would try one again. This one works really well and doesn't hurt nearly as much as I expected. On the legs it just felt scratchy. I also did my underarms, and it was bearable and as effective as waxing. There was some redness which disappeared within a couple of hours. I looked at feedback about the more expensive ones and I'm glad I went for a basic model. I don't think you need all the attachments and ice packs etc. I definitely recommend this one, and at £19.98 it's excellent value too!

This is my second Braun epilator - The first one gave up after working hard for 10 years (but I didn't clean it well enough). I was very sad, until I bought this one. Fantastic value, and it works even better! Leaves shaving and waxing firmly in the 20th century.
