I looked everywhere for an English version of this film for a surprise present. However one does not exist, though this was the perfect solution, region 2 so plays in the UK and on the menu you can choose to play the film in English, so I printed out an English sleeve and my mum was thrilled with this!

lovely film which runs a long time but is thoroughly enjoyable. It would be great if it was available in region 2 at an affordable price

Tommy Steele plays an excellent character in Half a sixpence. The music is amazing and the singing is brillent. The film I thought was a beautiful love story but that all soon changed when Tommy Steele betrayed his love. In the end it all became a love story again and I think that this film deserves 4 stars.

I have always felt that Tommy has been one of Britains finest song and dance men. He has worked with and trained with, top International Stars like Fred Astaire, and Gene Kelly. and some of Hollywoods big studios have looked in the past to sign him. The copy of Half a Sixpence that I currently own is a Region One edition, which I can only play on my computer. The region Two copies, which are appropriate to the Uk are scarce, and are only available at a prohibited price. When are we going to get a re-mastered copy of this exilherating film. If you like good entertainment, that is lively, and fun, try and grab one of these limited copies if you can. As a footnote, Tommy is still working, though now in his 70's, and will shortly appear here in Peterborough, in the musical version of the Dickensian Classic Scrooge.. I,m sure this will be a wonderful evenings entertainment.

This film brought back all the memories of the 1960s. Tommy Steel as an actor and singer at the start of his film career. I thought the film/musical was really enjoyable. The music and songs are catchy. The story has a happy ending. What more could I expect when taking my girl to the pictures long ago! It is a pity that the film industry has not reformatted this film onto DVD as it will not be long before VHS is obsolete and no VHS players will be available for playing this medium. That aside, this film sits alongside Summer Holiday, 7 brides for 7 brothers, etc as a 60s musical of real enjoyment.

We had just read HG Wells's book "Kipps" in our book group, when one of our number pointed out that it was the basis for the musical "Half a Sixpence", which is why I ordered this.
It turned out to be in Spanish, apart from the songs, and it did take me a while to work out how to find the English version of the dialogue - not speaking enough Spanish to understand what the various options were!
I found it very syrupy, and not really to my taste - in fact I raced through a lot of it at double speed.

I needed cheering up during the dreadful weather and this DVD was perfect for the job. One of Tommy Steele's great films.
