RPM is a great re-issue company and most of their releases always have something of interest to get your ears around. This, I believe, is supposed to be a companion disc to the 5 volume Dream Babes set which chronicled obscure British Girl singers of the 6o's. This volume chronicles their US cousins - the 22 tracks spans 1963-68 so you get the full spectrum ot the girl sound. Standouts include The Kane Triplet's impossibly groovy vocal version of The Mission Impossible theme, donna loren's So, Do The Zonk, The Murmaids cover of Traffic's Paper Sun, The Starlets You don't love me and the bond like brass that punctuates the marvellous The Boy With The Way by Jamie Carter- heresy I know, but I prefer this single set to any one of The Dreambabes. I'm not sure why, well yes i do, the US girls sound like they're having more fun than their english counterparts -and...oh cripes but they do sound sexier.

5.0 out of 5 stars EGYPTIAN SHUMBA, INDEED!, 30 Dec 2011

I bought this CD for Verdelle Smith's Tar & Cement which I had never forgotten since it's release in the 60s - but never bought. It's an exceptional buy for lovers of the girl group sound. However did I live without ever hearing Egyptian Shumba until my 60's - clearly the most insane performance I have ever heard (barring Wildman Fischer - who was insane)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find U S girls, 7 April 2011
This review is from: Girls Go Zonk - US Beat Chicks & Harmony Honeys (Audio CD)
An addition to the RPM Dream Babes series this one is of American girls both known and unknown.
Named after Donna Loren's Do the Zonk there's 21 other songs including the last known one by the Murmaids in which the lead singer is the wonderfully named Cathy Brasher who had at least one of her solo singles issued in Japan.
Debbie Burton may be unknown but her voice was used in the film Whatever happenned to Baby Jane for the song I've written a letter to Daddy which was supposed to be the Bette Davis character. (The girl voices on the Johnny & the Hurricanes' single of the title song were by the Young Sisters)
Well worth seeking out as it can be obtained from Cherry Red

If you like 60's US girl groups, you'll love it.
Probably you may struggle to recognise any of the tracks but when you hear them, you'll wonder why they didn't get more airplay.
The Kane Triplets version of 'Mission Impossible' is reason alone to get this CD. This should have been a smash.
One of those tracks that has you reaching for the replay button.
This whole CD had a real 60's feel to it.
Buy & revel in a feeling of nostalgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dream Babes USA, 26 Mar 2008

This review is from: Girls Go Zonk - US Beat Chicks & Harmony Honeys (Audio CD)
This cd is a part of R.P.M's Dream Babes series, however all artists on this volume herald from the USA, it's an excellent cd from start to finish, the last track is alternative take of the fantastic Egyptian Shumba by The Tammys, worth it for the price alone.
