Yikes, it's really coming out again ! I bought this on vinyl for some inflated price years ago when it had already been delated because it's a great record from a chronically underappreciated band.
The death of Robert Palmer this year (2003) was a shock. He had a great solo career after leaving Vinegar Joe, but there was something about the chemistry and artistry with Elkie Brooks (who was never the same in her own solo career in my humble opinion) that made Vinegar Joe really special. When Elkie was off, it was really amazing ! Live? Wow !
With this reissue, there is again a Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On (at least on the CD player if not live).
Should you get this OR Speed Queen of Venture (the recently issued compilation of the band)?
Tough question.
But get both.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rob'n'Roll Robert and Elkie do it again, 17 Feb 2012
This review is from: Rock N Roll Gypsies (Audio CD)
Straight in with Elkie and Robert belting it out over a Delaney and Bonnie-esque rocker called So Long the slide guitar work and Leo Russell style piano could be right off of D&B Together.

Charley's Horse...hmmm don't know what to make of this one, a swingy prog jam, harmonized guitar solos - Almond bros style. loose echoy production, loads of energy but a overall lacking.

Rock'n'roll Gypsys, a gentle souly waltz, piano, bass, drums, acoustic guitar. Elkie lets it all out good track nice feel, some nice electric guitar touches on it too. Reminds me of a Billy Joe Shavers track.

Falling this has got a great groove, the melody is slightly borrowed from the Beatles I've Got a Feeling, the song stands up well, helped along by a strong chorus, bridge and an awesome drum track. There's a heavy Meters/New Orleans influence here on the rhythm section and organ

It's getting to the point is a spiky song which sits together uneasily, but the enthusiasm of the singers meld it together. This is based round a simple rock riff; it's OK.

Whole lotta shakin' (going on) Yep that ol' song. Done well, they give it plenty of beans!

Buddy can you spare me a line. The blues harp player seems to get a bit lost at some points through this, a nice feel to the song, the kind of feel Richie Haywood from Little Feat would put down. Good track

Angel power ballad Hendrix cover. OK

No One Ever Do is a good time rocker a good lyric well delivered a catchy song indeed, the blues harp is stronger on this track.

Forgive us a nice acoustic driven song a reminds me of the Clarence White era Byrds a slight Mexican flavor in the timing and nice harmonies.

Sits well alongside the previous album, if you like Vinegar Joe (album) you won't be disappointed.
