Relaxation at its best,
By Jo (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leah Bracknell - Yoga And You [DVD] (DVD)
I have previously been a big fan of Barbara Currie's Yoga workouts, but fancied a change, and decided to give Yoga and You a try. I did not expect to enjoy this DVD as much as I have. It is very different to Barbara Currie in the way that the moves are so unhurried and (seem) effortless! Each position is repeated several times but rather than seeming repetitive and boring, it is extremely relaxing and therapeutic.I particularly like the way that the narration and breathing instruction are run over the top of the DVD, rather than Leah talking whilst she's carrying out the exercises, and her voice, the music and the settings are exceptionally relaxing. The instructions and clear, relaxed and simple and the attention given to the breathing is excellent. When following the DVD for the first time, I was concerned that I was perhaps not getting much out of the Yoga, other than winding down and relaxing. However, I put this to the test and can honestly say my flexibility had improved greatly by even just the end of the first 2 sections. So, not only was I getting a good stretching workout from the DVD, I was also totally relaxed by the end of it too. I will definitely be looking out for Leah's next Yoga DVD, and cannot recommend this one enough.

I bought this a couple of years ago after having a baby and I'm still doing it now. I found it very relaxing and pleasant to do and its good you can choose a section depending on your mood/time issues. Another good thing is that you can do the postures without having to constantly look at the tv as Leah's commentry gives an adequate description without spoiling the ambience of relaxation. I'm sure I will be doing this dvd for many years to come, the novelty still hasn't worn off yet unlike many other fitness videos I've tried.

Not so good for regular practitioners,

I have to disagree with other reviewers on some points!! This video is beautifully shot, and gives clear instructions. However it is not very challenging as a yoga workout. If you are relatively new to yoga this dvd is a great introduction to home practice. If, like me, you have been a yoga devotee for years, then the session is disappointing. No pose is held for any length of time, Leah's alignment is not great in some poses, and some poses are demonstrated nowhere near the correct position - most notably the warrior pose where your bent leg should be at right angles and your thigh parallel to the floor. If you are an old hand looking for a change to your routine I wouldn't recommend this dvd. If you are new - go for it - but watch through first as some important instructions aren't given until you repeat the position!

A lovely yoga routine which suits almost everyone,

This is one of the best yoga DVD's I've come accross. I have concerns about beginners and those with little experience of yoga trying to learn postures from a DVD but the postures on this are easy to follow and perfect. I find it challenging physically but also very relaxing which some of the more "power orientated" yoga DVD's are not.I would recommend this for beginners to intermediates.

I never thought that I would ever by a yoga video or DVD but after seeing this one advertised I thought 'what the hell!'. I had heard a lot of people say that they found yoga very effective and extremely relaxing so I purchased the DVD. Being a deffinate plus size and overweight I was a little nervous about what the content would be like. From examples of yoga I had seen in movies it looked like you had to be a certified acrobat to get into the positions. So I put on the DVD and watched it through to see if it was humanly possible! I was very surprised. The location was fantastic, the music was extremely relaxing and Leah's voice is very soothing. Just watching her and listening to her voice reminds me of guided meditations! I thought that the routine looked simple enough and I liked the way they just waft through it. So I changed into some loose bottoms, a vest top and got my yoga groove on. I have only had the DVD for three days and have done the routine every day since. I find it lovely and relaxing and can do all the positions except I find the 'finding balance' section a little challenging. The first time I did this section I banged my head on the floor and then halfway through the main pose fell over. I also found on a couple of positions my stomach got in the way and restricted me slightly. But that's just me! I couldn't find a fault with the video as this is the first one I have tried. Although I do find the long periods of inhalation and exhalation a little strange but I'm sure that the more I do it the easier it will get. During the workout you don't perspire or feel out of puff but afterwards you deffinately feel like you have used all your muscles. This is what has held my interest. I can get through the whole thing without thinking 'please god make it stop' but know afterwards that I have done something. It is deffinately a good way to start.

Very good with easy positions and great results,
This review is from: Leah Bracknell - Yoga And You [DVD] (DVD)
I have used several yoga videos and dvds and found this one to be the easiest and less strenuous of them all. The routines are very well explained and with Leah's calming voice you feel yourself getting into it straight away. I like this dvd as you really feel and notice a difference without killing yourself trying to get into difficult positions. A must for beginners and those wanting a less extreme approach.

Wonderful Sunday Yoga,
By
This review is from: Leah Bracknell - Yoga And You [DVD] (DVD)
I call this my 'Sunday Yoga' DVD. The reason is that it is just so relaxing. Leah Bracknell has a very calming voice, and the locations around Ibiza are just lovely. The workout runs from sunrise to sunset, located on a beach, next to a waterfall, and in the bush. That is not to say that there are not challenging positions in the workout. However, for some reason, it just seems that my body never feels stressed in any of them. It may just be the format of the workout that Leah has put together, whic is truly relaxing and enjoyable. There are floor and standing positions, including triangle pose, victory pose, and brave warrior. The positions provide great stretching for the legs, the torso and the arms. It is great to do if you are looking for a calm workout, or your body is feeling sore. A wonderful, fulfilling yoga DVD that leaves you feeling the way a yoga session should- peaceful, calm, and aware of your body.

I love this DVD. I have other Yoga beginners DVD's but this is by far the best. The movement is flowing and well demonstrated, the locations are beautiful and Leah has a very relaxing voice. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I have been attending a yoga class once a week for a while, but wanted to work on my technique at home. This DVD is ideal, it has various sections so that you can do one long session, or a shorter one or simply just pick your favourites. I enjoy doing this regularly and it has definately improved my flexibility and strength.
