5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful 17th century music!, 24 July 2008
This review is from: Trio Sonata in 17th Century England (Audio CD)
The trio sonata is a sonata for two melody instruments (usually violins) and continuo, as distinct from the solo sonata (one instrument plus continuo) and from larger viol consorts or ensemble sonatas. In the 17th century, the household of Charles I (as Prince of Wales) became well known as a centre for string consort music, with Ferrabosco, Lupo, Gibbons and Coprario (the most eminent composers of consort music) in his employment.
This lovely CD gives a "conducted tour" of the development of the trio sonata, illustrated with music by Gibbons, Coprario, Lawes, Jenkins, Locke, Simpson, Blow and Purcell, performed with great musicality by the London Baroque, one of the foremost exponents of baroque chamber music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy, 27 May 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Trio Sonata in 17th Century England (Audio CD)
This album revolvels around the fantasys by John Coprario and William Lawes and more. The musicans give new life to the old fantasy suites. Coprario is the One who gave England it's polyfonic Organ Violin - Viola Gamba music. This is practicaly the Begining of English Classical music and this begining gave the world some of the best music which ever been created.
Listen to how the organ underpins the violin and Gamba. This create something much better then ever Mozart or Bach. They seem like 90-s rock music and theese two like the 60-s in comparison. This is Classical music at it's best and it is strange that not even one Coprario album is on the market.
