5.0 out of 5 stars Journey through the congo, 24 Nov 2009
This review is from: Congo Ashanti (Audio CD)
This is another brilliant offering from the Congos. There is no doubt about that.Excellent lyrics, pulsating riddims and the harmonies are second to none.Incidently, the original Congos, cedric Myton and Roydell Johnson (aka-Congo Ashanti Roy)falsetto and tenor respectively, were joined,at the suggestion and advice of Lee Perry,by a Black Ark regular recording artist named watty Burnett. This was due to Burnett possessing a renowned barritone voice.Perry equated this deeper voice would both fit well with and, blend beautifully with the Congos higher altitude.Make no mistake, those in the reggae know the music and, especially the Congos themselves are all about higher heights of consciousness, and this album takes you there. The Congos will be the first to admit they will probably never reach the heights "Heart of the Congo" reached. This is what happens when your first release is a masterpiece, were the voices themselves were as instruments in their own right. The harmonies alluring and almost heavenly. There is no hype about their first album,it is actually as close to perfection as any artist could ever get.Having said that,in my oppinion,Congo Ashanti is a great album in its own right and one of their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than heart of congos, 28 Nov 2006
This review is from: Congo Ashanti (Audio CD)
Heart of congos is the congos album that is often spoken about as being a classic or a reggae masterpiece, this album is in my opinion however much better, its quality songs, slick production beautiful harmonies with lyrics and melodies that will get hooked in your mind for days after you listened to it. The sheer slickness of the production is what makes this so enjoyable. I think people just entering the world of reggae and hardcore reggae heads alike will enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars thief is in the vineyard, trying to spoil the harvest, 2 Feb 2005

This review is from: Congos Ashanti (Audio CD)
gorgeous sounds of the congos. if you're one who enjoys the vintage roots sounds from the abyssinians, chantells, and junior murvin, you will find much of the same here. equal to the "heart of the congos" in both beauty and power.
