As an ex chef i found this book extremely fascinating, as it tells you how it was from early 30's in the kitchen.No pre-packs/frozen/tinned/powdered/plastic jars/microwave ovens/convector ovens etc. This was cooking at its best from total raw/fresh ingrediants. Soups to sauces, no short cuts, all fresh made. I read it like a novel.
Another similar book to read would be Warne's Model Cookery and housekeeping by Mary Jewry, although this is now classed as Rare book, but can be got on line.
