I brought this on in my quest for finding music that would inspire me when I'm writing or drawing and believe me, it hasn't disappointed. I'd heard of Clannad for a very long time but only now do I realise how great they are and why I should have found them a long time ago!
This is a wonderful 'introduction' CD to the band. Some of the tracks, most of the more 'pop' type ones with guitars and the duets aren't to my taste. I much prefer the more Celtic and haunting songs such as 'Theme From Harry's Game' (a song I didn't even realise that was by Clannad! Derrr!!!) and most of the tracks later on the CD. However, that's just me and overall the CD is very enjoyable and very relaxing!
A must by if you are just discovering the Clannad, if you already have a 'best of' album, then you might be wiser to buy purchase one of their actual albums instead.
Oh, and I haven't got round to listening to the chill out album that is included with this, so expect an update when I do!

I have every album this band have made, nothing disappoints.
Anyone new to Clannad will either love or hate this album, if you love it then go buy the rest of their albums, because this is really representative of their work. The second disc in this set it called Clannad Chilled and that is the best way to describe their music, chilled and relaxing, but don't listen to me, listen to them. Clannad, Maire (Moya) Brennan and Enya (who was once a pre-'Harry's Game' member of the band) produce music that Ireland should be proud of. Buy and enjoy.
Note to Clannad: How about reforming for a new album??

What can I say that has not already been said about Clannad? With their patented style of ethereal vocals and traditional Irish music, they have, over the years, made many records of haunting, beautiful music. I bought this album just to get hold of the `Theme From Harry's Game', a tune I fell in love with may years ago, and was delighted with the rest of the music on the album that I was not previously familiar with. A beautiful and relaxing record.

Certainly the best combination album by the great Irish band Clannad yet. I've listened to many of the band's tracks and it certainly my opinion that this is the best yet.

This is a great album. When i bought it, i only knew two or three songs, specially the one from the soundtrack of The Last of the Mohicans. Nevertheless, the entire album is really quite good. If you like calm music, the Best of Clannad is "a must have".

Firsty ignore the 2 star review he/she doesn't know what they talking about. First of all, this album has 18 tracks(minus extra tracks which is on CD 2) mainly the more mainstream stuff but there are 2 (3) new songs. The first song is What Will I Do? which was featured in Message in a bottle, and Christmas Angels which was released as a single in 1997 but only in UK; so you get those new tracks and for the second time you get Both Sides Now featuring Paul Young but when this song was released in 1991; it was then added to Themes compilation which is getting hard to find. Songs like Harry's Game, In A Lifetime; I will Find You, to Newgrange, Buachaill Ón Éirne to the new stuff such as Trail Of Tears and A dream in the night. This compilation has an extra CD which contains 8 tracks, containing Croí Cróga, Úirchill An Chreagáin, Dobhar, Na Laethe Bhí, to mixes Of Together We, Caislean Óir (Planet Heaven Mix), Chicane Saltwater (Mothership Remix) and Coinleach Glas An Fhómhair (Cantoma Mix) which is on CD 2. All in all, a good selection; if I have one gripe about it CD 2 should have had some of the old Clannad from the early years but thats a minor dissapointment as this CD makes up for that.

This is a great starting point for the band; bear in mind you be hearing the majority of the new stuff and no new stuff. If this album pleases you; then the Ultimate Collection features a majority of old Clannad which mixes the old and new really nicely. You may see a compilation called An Diolam which is a good start; but theres no variety, you be hearing 9 tracks of Clannad 2, and 5 of Dulaman and thats all you be getting; good if get want a taste of old Clannad but once you heard them you bound to like Clannad 2, minus Dulaman which has 5 tracks on the compilation (10 tracks on LP) so you may/may not like that. Clannad is hard to categorise; as one minute they are New Age, one minute they are jazz, then pop.

Buy this album, you wont regret it ;)
