4.0 out of 5 stars Student mess
I am a student living with 3 boys and another girl. you should have seen the state of the cooker, i swear it was so dirty that a photo of it would probably offend too many people to go on the internet.....but not anymore!!
I bought the JML steam genie, and was quite skeptical about whether it would work or not, i mean cheap things are generally rubbish arent they...

I bought this machine with high hopes but was severely disappointed when I got it home and out of the box. It did not remove the grease from the cooker nor the mildew from the bathroom in my boyfriend's house. It is heavy and the buttons are difficult to press. You only get short bursts of steam before you have to let it 'reboot' With postage this thing cost me £30. I wish I'd saved myself the cash.

I am a student living with 3 boys and another girl. you should have seen the state of the cooker, i swear it was so dirty that a photo of it would probably offend too many people to go on the internet.....but not anymore!!
I bought the JML steam genie, and was quite skeptical about whether it would work or not, i mean cheap things are generally rubbish arent they? but its actually really good. i completely cleaned the kitchen yesterday, and its all sparkling white now.

the only way to explain it is like feeling you have acomplished something great whilst actually putting in minimal effort....a good feeling of satisfaction. All it takes is the time.

its quick to heat up, and the steam lasts for ages. For the whole kitchen i only had to fill it up twice.

the only criticism i have of it are the buttons. You have to press 2 buttons to get the steam coming out, and there is no way (that ive figured out) of keeping the buttons down so you can free your other hand. this means that you have to do the cleaning by using one hand, which isnt fun if you need to hold something! i had to enlist one of my house mates to be the button presser.

the next job is to attack the mould in the bathrooms.....wont this be fun!

if its powerfull enough for a student house, it should be powerfull enough for you. well worth getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Safety Concern, 28 May 2005
This review is from: JML Steam Genie (Kitchen & Home)
I think this product cleans well - it made a huge impact on our cooker. However, I do have a safety concern - firstly, there is no water level indicator, so it is diffcult to assess when it is out of water and according to instructions machine cannot be used when empty.
Although Pg 3 of the manual states to wait for the unit to cool before adding water, the instructions for refilling on Pg 4 appear to contradict this as they say to discharge the steam while unscrewing the safety, but the machine may be hot.
Following instructions on Pg 4, I used a towel to unscrew the top, while the machine was switched off and the steam appeared to be discharged and the buttons were continuouly depressed.
What happened next was that the top blew off the cleaner, shooting a fountain of scalding water into the air. The force of the water covered the ceiling with water and burned us both - thankfully we both jumped out of the way and escaped with very minor scalding.
We are concerned about this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Steam Genie??, 14 July 2005
This review is from: JML Steam Genie (Kitchen & Home)
I bought the Steam Genie today. I was going to buy a more expensive model thinking it would be better and give better performance! How stupid can I be? the Steam Genie is a pile of crap!! it constantly runs out of steam, only works for a few seconds before needing to rest and build up pressure again. The buttons are very awkward to press while using the other hand to actually do the cleaning. The thing did remove some of the grease and general filth round my cooker and in the bog, but it just hasn't got the capacity to be as useful as a steam cleaner could be! I am going to get a full size model, hopefully that will do what it's supposed to! Don't waste your money on the Steam Genie, save up and get a 'Proper' Steam cleaner.

Defrost the freezer in 10 mins?, Sanitise the fridge? If you put the time in, this will make 95% of your gaff, sparkle. Its £22 and it will clean and sanitise almost anything!

This is a great little gadget for giving the kitchen sides a quick steralise.

It isn't the product it states and is not good at removing stains as it simply isn't powerful enough but as a sanatising unit it gets a thumbs up.

Price wise it is very good and a good purchase if you have a baby on the way.

Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars I agree absolute rubbish and a DANGER, 26 Oct 2011

This review is from: JML Steam Genie (Kitchen & Home)
This piece of kit is useless - no steam power and after a couple of uses started to blow hot steam back through the trigger mechanism and scalded my hand.luckily I was wearing my best Marigolds at the time or else it could have been very painful. Wrote to the manufacturers outlining the weakness and have not even received the courtesy of a response.
