my daughter brought her chassuer with her when she came to stay - i was cross because i didnt want to have to give it house room. however she has not been allowed to leave until i had one to replace it - it is absolutely brilliant. i have a Rayburn cooker and was a bit worried that because of the handle i had to move the oven shelf down - in solid fuel cookers this makes a big difference. not with this. it cooks beautifully and is so versatile i use it for everything. they bought me a 'la cuisine' for Christmas but the chassuer is lighter weight - i would opt for the chassuer and 22cm seems a good useful size, at least to begin with. happy cooking.

I really like this range - we now have the griddle pan and the 22cm casserole dish in cream, and I plan to add more to my collection. We have a solid fuel aga so cast iron pans are a must, and this doesn't disappoint. We have also used it to cook on the gas hob with no problems, and it looks good enough to serve to the table too. Prices can vary wildly on these though, at the time of writing this review the 22cm pan is around £65, when I bought it it was under £40! Watch and wait is my advice, but definitely treat yourself when the price is right.

COLOUR : CREAM

22 cm with an approximate maximum capacity : 3L

Sturdily boxed, complete with a handy little CHASSEUR care booklet, which includes a recipe idea for each product range.

This casserole is suitable for all heat sources and the knob is tolerant of oven temperatures up to 200°C (at the time of writing).

This is 'the pot' that features in the CHASSEUR Recipe Card range/Autumn Selection:

'Moroccan Spiced Lamb Shanks with Chickpeas'; a tasty recipe serving two comfortably...with a little left for seconds.

Dishwasher safe...but cast iron is relatively easy to wash up, by hand, too, albeit a little soaking might be required along with a rub with a plastic brush for more stubborn baked-on food remains, like toffeed apple.

ooOoo

Chasseur also recommend the use of their casserole dishes in lieu of saucepans:

* to heat up sauces
* boil pasta/rice
* make gravy
* deep-fry home-made chips

Extremely satisfied with this product.

It lives up to all expectations and compares very favourably with Le Creuset. I also have a Le Creuset so I can compare the two.

Being Cast Iron, they are heavy and you should be aware of this before you purchase.

They are wonderful to clean and take no effort at all. No need for the dishwasher. !

I am really pleased with this casserole: brilliant for cooking all kinds of soups, stews, sauces,... great in the oven as well. As the base gets very hot, the food might stick to it if not enough mixing is applied initially but it is very easy to wash. Heavy duty pot that will last a lifetime!

A little disappointed. Used casserole for first time and the knob disintegrated. Contacted manufacturer who said that some of the casserole knobs were faulty and that they would send me a replacement. Two weeks later and I am still waiting. I bought a different size for a friend's birthday and have told her of the problem and she has not yet used her casserole. If I do not hear from Dexam very soon, I will return both to Amazon as faulty goods. Not too happy at the moment. The actual casserole appears to be ok, but only used it once. I bought this casserole as I wanted two and Le Creuset would have been too expensive. Maybe a lesson learned, we shall see.

As noted by another reviewer below - the knob fell off the lid the first time it was used in the oven. Not exactly a great caserole dish!! I gave this as a Christmas gift :o( I have tried to get a replacement from Amazon however they can only offer a refund - not what I wanted when I only purchased through Amazon for the 50% discount that was on offer at the time. I will now try the manufacturers... Other than the faulty knob it seems so far like a good product although my confidence in it has been significantly knocked.

Just wanted to say we are extremely happy with this product. Apart from the fabulous casseroles that have come from it...is the fact that it is so easy to clean. After the first use my partner said 'Dinner was great but good luck cleaning it'! The cleaning was a breeze. Good quality stylish product. Thanks!

Re: Product Description – Amazon.co.uk Review

I take issue with the Amazon review.

The first is the advice to not use this cookware on high heat. The enamel will not chip if used on high heat. This cookware is made for the oven and or the hob. In the manufacturing process the cast iron has the be heated to an extremely high temperature (red hot) to fire the enamel and as such is more than able to withstand very high heat.

What they will not take is cold water being splashed onto them when hot, or the hot pot being put straight into the sink and filled with water – this will chip the enamel because cold water shrinks the enamel before the cast iron can cool.

The inside of the pot will be damaged by strong acids like lemon juice and vinegar if left for long periods (marinading) and this will be accelerated during a hot cooking process – such as braising red cabbage.
The enamel will also be destroyed by strong cleaning agents like bleach and strong alkalis such as caustic soda.
We would not consider storing food in these pots for more than a day in a fridge.
30 years of experience with this cookware should be enough to qualify my comment
