this opener is brilliant, i never used electric openers b4, did not even know they exist. my manual opener was getting too old and lost its sharpness, so i updated it to this one. i got hang of it straight away, it is easy to use, quick and mess-free. buy it and make ur life easier.

*update 01.05.12* the opener still works and going strong, fab quality

**update 26.01.2013** fab, still does the job as it did when i first bought it
***update 26.07.2015*** the magnet that holds the lid broke off, but the opener itself still works well, I just have to pick the lid out of the tin once opened :-). the sharpener is going strong too but I don't use it as often.

I have seen reviews sometimes stating this can be difficult to use but I have never had a problem with it. This is my second in fact as I used the other for many years and eventually wore it out although it still works but with a bit of noise. This machine even opens Frey Bentos pie tins with a little support of the tin. Most cans it opens without human intervention bar offering it up to the cutter. Once latched the tin is opened and safely attached to the machine until you choose to remove it. The magnetic lid holder will work most of the time and pull away the lid. The secret of this however is to keep the machine clean and leave the magnet free to move. The bottle opener works well but for small bottles even you often have to move the device to the edge of the surface to get the bottle under. The knife sharpener does just that but I prefer to use the old fashioned method for this task. It's an extra that is useful if you are not good at manual sharpening. My first was bought by my kids for a Christmas present and they couldn't even tell when I replaced it as the old one looked as good as new! Great bit of kit this especially for those having difficulty with traditional openers. Practice makes perfect so give it a fair try. Cheap as chips and well designed to boot.

I bought this can opener about ten months ago!! Have used and used it. The hands free bit is great, just press down and let it go, then the magnet grabs the lid!!!! Wouldn't be without it. I will say that getting the tin in position took some practice but since then I haven't looked back. Well done Kenwood!!!!!!

I bought this can opener about ten months ago!! Have used and used it. The hands free bit is great, just press down and let it go, then the magnet grabs the lid!!!! Wouldn't be without it, when I think of all the manual openers I have bought and disposed of. I will say that getting the tin in position took some practice, you need to be prepared to spend some time getting the hang of that, but since then I haven't looked back. Well done Kenwood!!!!!!

This can opener is better than I had expected. No force is required. You don't have to hold onto the can or the lid. Just position the can near to the bar, press down very lightly on the lever, and whoosh, off it goes. It's so quick to start, that it still makes me jump. There is also a useful knife sharpening stone at the rear of the device. It's magic!

Quite simply, I've had an electric can opener for 10 years now and myself, I would be without one in my house. I've upgraded from the white one I had before and this Chrome Effect one fits in nicely in my kitchen. The knife sharpener comes in handier than you might imagine it would and the bottle opener too....I keep this can opener near my cooker hob, and it's amazing how often I need to use it to take all the bottle tops off straight from the fridge just before I also serve the food.

It would be dishonest to give this little piece of kitchen equipment anything less than the 5 stars treatment.....

My mother had a similar solid original design of this form of tin opener more years ago and I care to remember. I'd regularly pester her to operate it and never needed help as a child! This on the other hand feels weighty enough but is an absolute lightweight when it comes to opening cans. It opened only one can (hands free)out of six tried. The problem lies with the flimsy easily detachable plastic operating arm (opposed to original solid metal)and even more so, to the lack of alignment/guidance for the cans. The magnet would do it's job if the can opened, but regularly fell off during the multiple alignments. I'm sure, if you're the all forgiving/enduring sort you'll manage to operate this can opener with regular dexterity, but I for one am not prepared to pay this kind of money for a can opener, which to me, is equivalent to a pair of expensive shoe which break YOU in! Dismayed, I send the item back without trying any of the other features which I did not require anyway. I still ended up paying over £4 (more than reimbursed )for the privelege.

Previously had a Moulinex electric opener which worked great for ten years but finally gave up the ghost. Purchased this one from Amazon and I have to say that overall I am very disappointed and has a number of design faults.
Looks great and reasonably priced but, has a very slow rate of turn in operation.
Difficult to get a can to position correctly to start opening, often takes several attempts and to top it all the magnet fails to catch the lid which drops back into the can and has to be fished out.
Needless to say I will be buying another from Kenwood.
