5.0 out of 5 stars Finally the story about the British soldiers in Iraq
This excellent DVD is a long awaited and well-deserved tribute to the British soldiers in the Iraq War. From many other sources, you often get the feeling that only American soldiers fought in the war, but this DVD covers the British contribution very well - better than most other sources. The DVD has a 100 picture Photo Gallery (with very informative captions - remember...

Not for serious military historians. I bought this on the strength of the review here and was really looking forward to seeing some of the thousands of hours of news footage taken during the conflict. I was very dissapointed.

The DVD started by quoting sections of LtCol Tim Collins now famous speech on the eve of battle. Sadly rather than actually showing the speech, it was read out by an American narrator whilst stock footage of tanks and planes are played out. This really sums up the whole DVD.

The film relies heavily on stock library footage to pad it out and spends most of the time talking about the various planes and vehicles used. The film does not cover the campaign or any of the battles in any depth and does not detail any order of battle for either side. This reveals a lack of research.

The extras include photographs of British soldiers that although mildly interesting in them selves add nothing to the story of the campaign and appear to be an after thought. There are also yet more profiles of equipment used, yawn.

This excellent DVD is a long awaited and well-deserved tribute to the British soldiers in the Iraq War. From many other sources, you often get the feeling that only American soldiers fought in the war, but this DVD covers the British contribution very well - better than most other sources. The DVD has a 100 picture Photo Gallery (with very informative captions - remember to switch on the captions !) with the categories: "Mobilisation", "Kuwait", "Training", "Into Battle", the truly wonderful "The Troops" which shows the soldiers as what they are: Ordinary humans like you and me, and "Aftermath". The DVD also has a fascinating 10 min. 40 sec. long, uncut interview with US Iraq vet Sgt. Aaron Harrell from Alpha Co., 8th Tank Batallion, who tells us about his experiences in Iraq during the war (in Nasiriyah on March 23). The DVDs main feature runs for exactly 1 hour and 12 min. with the chapters: "War In Iraq", "9-11", "Air weapons", "Naval forces", "On the ground", "War rooms", "A great dare", "Strategy", "Invasion", "Sandstorms", "Propaganda" and finally "Into Baghdad". It has a nice blend of combat footage combined with more technical explanations of various weapons systems. All in all, this is a DVD that I can fully recommend.
