Perfect protection & it fits,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Canon 58mm 1X UV Filter (Electronics)
I bought 2 of these, one to protect my Canon EFS 18-55mm lens and the other to protect my Canon EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM lens, and they fit perfectly. Unlike other reviewers I've had no issues with the lens caps fitting the filters and also I use these UV filters in conjunction with a HOYA circular polarizing filter with no problems what-so-ever.All-round great bit of kit, well worth the money to protect your precious lenses. You could get away with owning only one for all your lenses, but consider the price of your lens and the cost of one of these filters; do you really want to be shifting them between lenses in the field? Thoroughly recommended.

Disappointed!!!!!,
This review is from: Canon 58mm 1X UV Filter (Electronics)
I have just received this item this morning purchased for my and delivery time was excellent, and unlike a few other people i have no problem with the fit of this item or the lens cap fitting again. My problems are however are firstly the condition, the amount of dust and general dirts on the filter is unreal, and secondly the cut of the glass, i feel i may have been able to actually cut the glass better myself, and i promise this is no exaggeration. It will have to suffice until i purchase a Hoya alternative. I have literally had to spend 30 mins cleaning it and it is still not free from dust. Also as stated in other reviews it does say made in USA and no Japan like the illustration. All in all not particularly happy!

Can't really tell if these filters actually make any difference to the quality of the picture taken, but function perfectly to protect your prized lenses from becoming accidently scratched.Bought a couple of these for my Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS & EF-S 55-25omm lenses. I keep them permanently on the lens. Not too expensive, when you compare it to the price of the lenses themselves.

Does not fit Canon front cap!,

I concur with the previous post, if put on a EF 70-300mm the Canon cap does not fit any more! So add a few more pounds to the price for another cap...

Is it really a Canon??,

I've always preferred Canon's own products where I could afford them. I got the Tiffen UV filter and this Canon one at the same time, intending to put this Canon one on my more valuable lens. The Tiffen one seems fine, but this (more expensive) Canon filter had a loose glass - it rattled! I carefully superglued it in place and there's no rattle now. Nearly cost me a lens when the glue fumes left white deposit on the front lens element. No problems with fitting/sizes, just the rattle.

Beware - Looks like a non-genuine Canon Filter?,

Deeply disappointed to receive this in poor condition.Filter box was scratched and battered. On closer inspection the box was not like all my other Canon UV filters of the same type and model, when looking closer the filter lens itself was loose within its frame and rattled when moved, when holding the filter up to the light it, it was covered in dust, scratches and smears, not what you would expect for a new filter!... Putting my existing filters next to this of exactly the same type and model (Bought from a retailer when I bought my Canon Camera) the biggest difference is that all the other canon filters are made in Japan, but this one is imprinted with USA, which is different to the supplied picture on the Amazon Website and as far as I am aware all Canon filters are made in Japan... All looks a bit too dodgy to me, so have sent it back immediately for a refund using Amazons excellent returns process...

works well for me,
This review is from: Canon 58mm 1X UV Filter (Electronics)
This is my first DSLR so I have nothing to compare with. However after various recommendations I decided to add this filter to my Canon 500D order. The filter was brand new from Canon and fitted perfectly on my lens. It doesn't seem to obscure the pictures I take (like its not meant to) so for me it does exactly what its supposed to.

COUNTERFIT,
By
This review is from: Canon 58mm 1X UV Filter (Electronics)
The filter arrived ok despite being dusty before i had even taken it out of the container. Once i picked it up i noticed that that the glass rattled inside the metal rim. I looked at the edge of the glass at an angle and could see that it was not a clean cut. The picture on amazon of the filter clearly says made in Japan, but despite this the filter i received said made in the USA, this is funny considering Canon is a japanese brand. I went to an authorised Canon retailer to ask about the filter. He showed me a canon own brand UV filter which was in a completely different case to the one I had received also it was made in Japan. He says that unless Canon Had all of a sudden Changed the case and the place of manufacture that it was almost certainly counterfit.

Protect your lens!,

Not exactly the most exciting product I've purchased but having these filters on the end of your lens (fitting permitting) will not only filter most flare but also protect your investment lens. I had no problem attaching mine onto a 18-55mm lens and 55-250mm lens and I feel assured that a scratch to the filter will mean only spending another few quid instead of splashing out new lenses.
