these series by peter kay are nothing short of comical genius! for anyone who has ever worked in social clubs you will have seen these characters 100's of times and for every one else they are just hilarious portrayals of characters he has met on his journey's. I have seen these dvd's too many times to count and they just get funnier every time the only bad thing is once you start watching them you can't stop and find hours passing by as you watch episode after episode!!! peter kay will go on to be a comedy legend especially for this genius show!!

Simply the best TV Comedy for years,
This review is from: Phoenix Nights: Series 1 and 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Peter Kay, along with the comic genius of Dave Spikey, has created one of the best TV comedys for some time.Phoenix Nights follows the highs and lows of the world famous Phoenix Club as Brian Potter and his mismatch of staff provide laugh after laugh. The everyday, simple humour is brilliant and will make you laugh each and every time you watch it. From 'TVs very own Roy Walker' in episode one (episode 1 of series 1)to 'Oi, Mandy Dingle' in episode 12 (episode 6 of series 2) the laughs keep coming. In the words of that great.....well good......well ok....ish singer Tina Turner, simply the best !!

Well, what can I say, this is easily the funniest programme I have ever seen.God Bless Peter Kay. I really cannot decide which is the funnier out of the two series, they are both excellent. Everything about this show is hilarious from Brain Potter getting stuck on his "Stannah" stairlift to the Max and Paddy pretending to be hitmen, you just could not make it up but Kay has and managed to do it without it seeming far fetched. A mention should also go to the supporting cast, charactors such as Big Kenny the liar and young kenny,Les Alanos and of course Holy Mary. The likes of these make the show for me but the best is Keith Lard the fire inspector who first appeared in 'That Peter Kay Thing' in the episode'Eyes Down' about the bingo hall. Good cameo apperances from Roy Walker,Jim Bowan,Tim Healey & Kate Robbins[I laugh out loud to myself every time i think of Holy Mary behind the bar at the Ann Summers style party with her love balls-sweet jesus!!!]. The bonus CD of tunes is a good laugh as well,I play it in the car to annoy the kids. All in all a great laugh and its true what another poster has said, once you start watching you can't stop. BUY IT!!!

phoenix nights is the perfect dvd to put on if you've had a rubbish day cause it just cheers you up. every episode is brilliant and theres loads of little jokes that you might not get first time round. i like the way the writers kept it as just 12 episodes and a pilot just like fawlty towers and the office. i personally think phoenix is one of the funniest things i have seen so obviously i recommend the box set

Think of your favourite sitcom, times it by ten and you're still not even close to matching the hilarity and brillaince of Peter Kay's critically acclaimed, award winning and cleverely observed masterpiece of a sitcom: PHOENIX NIGHTS!The series revolves around ruthless club owner Brian Potter, a resident of Bolton who is strapped to a wheel chair. Brian's luck is consistantly bad, his club has already burnt down twice before and as we join him in the first episode we see him attempt to rise his club from the ashes. So follow Brian and his band of merry men: bouncers Max and Paddy, star struck entertainer Jerry St. Claire, Kenny Senior and Kenny Jr, Holy Mary and of course, the resident bad guy cigar smoking Den Perry. Throughout this twelve flawless gems we see Brian's attempts at a Wild West Night (a disasterous recreation of the War of the Roses), a psychic night, a singles night where Brian finds true love (the things I'm gonna do to you), a stand up night, a robot wars night (Death by chocolate), Talent Trek, a family fun day with a hysterical inflatable (inflatable filth), a crimewatch construction, a quiz night, singles night and a carokee night (that wasn't in the hamper.) You'll never laugh so much. Unmistakable genius: a classic no doubt. Peter Kay is the king of modern day comedy.

What can i say? Quite possibly the funniest programme EVER! The pure comedy of Peter Kay is captured in this wonderful series, a great gift for any fan! A night with Potter, Jerry St Claire and the Phoenix Club is the funniest way to pass those dismal and dreary winter nights.

Super, Smashing, Great! This is a Brilliant Box Set!,

Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights has to be with out doubt one of the best comedy sitcoms of recent times combining side splitting laugh out loud moments with subtle one liners and offbeat quips that will offend some, and leave the majority in fits of laughter. Most people won't get all the jokes first time around, and you'll probably find that the more you watch it, the more you get out of it, weather its one of Kenny's many colourful lies, or an off the cuff remark by Brian that once again sails very close to the wind. The series itself contains a real mixture of weird and wonderful characters that make the show the watch again and again experience it is! There is of course Brian Potter, founder of the 'world famous' Phoenix Club and wannabe king of clubland. The show more or less revolves around him and his colleagues at the club and their various ups and downs in their effort to make the Phoenix Club a success. His arch nemesis Den Perry, owner of the Banana Grove Club also aspires to the title, king of clubland, and both men live to out do the other in relation to club business. There's also the hapless pawn and au pair of the Phoenix, Jerry 'the saint' Sinclair, Ray Von the DJ (amongst other things) Max and Paddy the doormen, the aforementioned Kenny Dalglish (senior) and many others. The series one DVD contains six episodes, with the first acting as an introduction to the main characters. For extras there are also some deleted scenes, trailers and out takes. If you're a fan of the series, then you'll know what I've been banging on about, and if you don't already own this box set I'd definitely recommend it. If you're new to Phoenix Nights but, you like comedies that are original, packed with laughs and very durable then this must be worth a look. It does have some regional humour, but that doesn't mean you wont 'get it' instead I would suggest it only adds to the whole experience. Peter Kay is a great stand up comedian, and without doubt a classy comic writer and actor. Many of his talents are on display here, don't miss this show!!

This dvd is just one of the funniest things around. Peter kay is just a comic genius. Some of the characters he creates are amazing. Also the acting is brilliant and the timing for the jokes is perfect.I think series 2 is better than the 1st series but they are both great. Onto the extras. Well they are just as funny. The outtakes are some of the funniest i have ever seen because most of the actors are comedians. There are plenty of outtakes where the cast just cant stop giggling. The extras are worth the amount of the dvd alone. Please buy this dvd and please say if this review has been helpful.

Fantastic Phoenix,

The characters in Phoenix Nights are all totally wacky. Whether we're talking about the indefatigable Brian Potter (Peter Kay) who believes that clubland will never die (however appalling the acts,) to the two doormen (one of whom is a tour de force also played by Peter Kay) or to Jerry St. Clair the singer. If you've ever sat in a club in the north of England, you'll recognise the audience. It's a brilliant study of the sort of people who go there and enjoy a night of Bingo and music. The stories are tightly written, well acted and total rib ticklers. My personal favourite is when Brian purchases a bucking bronco that doesn't really buck and one of the live acts is a real horse that goes AWOL on a beer-tasting session and confuses the bronco for a real mare...
