4.0 out of 5 stars New wave of "New Country", 3 Nov. 2003

This is a real grower. Its a mix of 1980s style "New Country" (you can easily imagine someone like Vince Gill singing the title track or "Are you still missing me?") and the sort of roots-pop of someone like Ron Sexsmith (on "Some Tears"). His voice is a mix of the two as well (at times it sounds like a cross between Ricky Skaggs and Loudon Wainwright) and is one of the strengths of the album. Personally I prefer the songs from the country end (the two mentioned above and "She ain't no you" are my favourites) but if there are few instant classics there are no real weak links either. All the basics are in place - I'm looking forward to the next album.

Found this chap by pure accident and wow what a singer-songwriter. This is Ryan Adams in the Whiskeytown era but better. Country tinged songs from the heart. If you like Ryan Adams early work then this is essential.Buy it and see then buy the begonias album with Caitlin Cary... Another awesome lp.
