These "Café" CDs are a great idea. Someone with good taste has compiled them, and they go for authenticity, rather than the lazy, cheapskate copyright-expired type of compilation we all know and hate. Even if the occasional one were substandard, you'd be onto an overall winner if you bought the whole set. The only complaint is there's no fixed price for them, and you have to shop around for every single one individually, and be prepared to wait sometimes, if you want to pay reasonable prices. (for example, I've just bought Café Madrid from Amazon France second hand for a twentieth of the price wanted by Amazon UK!). This particular one is simply an excellent collection of Cajun music, just like it says on the tin!

Not the usual selection which turns up on Cajun collections as it kicks off with a version of Jambalaya not known of till now. While Hank Williams passed it off as his own work and it hit the pop charts via Jo Stafford the melody is actually Cajun in origin and was known as Big In Texas before being remade as Jambalaya by Moon Mullican and is probably the most famous song of the genre
Jimmy C Newman & Cajun Country are from the 70s and represent an artist who began making Cajun music for the Feature label before turning to country and rock'n'roll on Decca and Dot then returning to the music and making a stack of albums for the Plantation label

different than anything else I have in my music collection.
As all the songs are in a version of French singing along is a bit difficult.
I have come to love this cd and have it on in the car a lot.
I will probably buy more Cajun in the future.

This album is not as varied as "stomps from the swamps", but still moves along at a cracking pace.
This is the type of music to get everyone up and dancing at a party.
