5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny and enjoyable film
My son asked me to buy this as he said it was really funny...i have to say this film is brilliant and very funny. Superb cast including Sam Rockwell and William H Macy to name two. With top notch screwball type comedy, this film is never boring and George Clooney is a class comedy actor who carries the film along at a good pace along with the excellent cast. The DVD seems...

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly wasted opportunity
I can't help but think this is a slightly wasted film, everything was going so well until the last 20 minutes. The first hour is excellent, very funny, not so much laugh out loud, more subtle humour. The acting is excellent through out, Sam Rockwell shines as usual and Clooney's cameo is strong. But in my opinion overall, it's hugely let down by the last 20 minutes (the...

3.0 out of 5 stars AS A FILM ITS A DISASTER,
This review is from: Welcome to Collinwood [DVD] [Region 1] [NTSC] (DVD)
Four bumbling crooks stumble unto an easy heist which doesn't turn out to be so easy. The film had good characters, but lacked good lines and a decent plot. The scenes didn't seem to mesh well. It is a comedy that made me smile at a few scenes, but never laugh.
5.0 out of 5 stars nice,
it,s a re make film the original film is from the 1960,s but a great re make lots of fun
4.0 out of 5 stars Slightly off the wall comedy,
We laughed a lot and we were surprised how much we enjoyed the bumbling crooks make a hash of bank robbery.

Watching this, about halfway through I found myself thinking "this is a great movie". Don't you just love it when that happens?
It's a heist comedy about a motley crew of low-level crims taking their best shot at making it out of the crap and is a perfect example of the collaborative creativity at the heart of the movie-making. Although George Clooney's presence in the cast is highlighted on the DVD packaging, actually his character is a relatively minor one in a story with about 8 different beautifully integrated character arcs, all of which are pretty evenly weighted, so that there is no true lead in what comes across as a tremendously accomplished ensemble performance. Putting Clooney's face front and centre was evidently for marketing reasons since this is essentially a modest semi-indie sized production. Such beasts need all the stardust they can get to survive at the American box office I guess. But there's nothing modest in scale about the talent both in front of and behind the camera. The production company was that of Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney putting their clout behind writer/directer team Anthony and Joe Russo. So it should come as no surprise that the film hits way above it's weight. Although different in style, it's comparable to a Cohen Brothers film in that respect: a thoroughly confident and glossy American mainstream film of exceptional creative quality.
So it doesn't have a big finish. That isn't a fault. It doesn't need one and I didn't miss it because I felt the story resolved perfectly. This is not Oceans Eleven (made by Soderbergh and Clooney the same year). In fact Soderbergh says on one of the DVD extras that what he liked about it was that it was the polar opposite of that other big, glamourous fun-fest project of his. And it's not like there's an anti-climax to bitch about here. On the contrary, this is a wonderfully paced and balanced narrative which feels tight and all of a piece right to the very end. I don't understand the reviewer who felt let down by the second half. The heist itself takes up most of that and contains some of the funniest screwball stuff. And make no mistake; this isn't some half-arsed arty comedy with understated, cutting, dry humour. It is certainly artful and displays ample subtlety but the laughs are out-loud, plentiful and arise from an embracing of the humanity in the comedy. Although it has a smart, slightly down-beat contemporary feel, this production also has the warmth of the traditional great American screwball comedy. I'm with the other reviewer who describes it as a grower. I think it deserves to become a minor classic. More importantly, whatever happens it will remain its essential self: a damn fine, funny yarn.
One of those instances where what looks like it might possibly (with luck) be a decent little film, actually turns out to be a total delight.
3.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to Collinwood,
Very famous cast so thought it would be better than it was.Story very funny in places but could have been better.Would recommend if you have a dry sense of humour.
5.0 out of 5 stars collinwood,
Bought this for a second time for my girlfriend as she kept wanting to borrow my copy. Hilarious film even when you know what is about to happen you can not help but crack-up. Clooney pretty much takes a back seat in this movie but the part he does play is very funny. A must see and keep
5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious,
i cried with laughter, a group of losers try so hard to carry out a robbery....the end is just brilliant!
5.0 out of 5 stars welcome to collinwood...gentle comedy '... ups,
Welcome To Collinwood [DVD]
Disagree with the other review..This is not a ''blokes beer'' movie..
I find it amusing funny and laugh out loud...
also the film has a heart... and the best character actors in the biz.. Patricia Clarkson if she is in a movie, then its worth watching... Macy, Clooney,Rockwell to name but a few..
Inept humans, getting it all wrong. a bungled robbery with a really human twist, this movie will make you smile just thinking about it...
Shows the abject poverty in America, but still this group of people care, even when they get it all wrong.. sorry no glossy care chases, or full frontal anything
It should make you feel good....go on you know you want to watch it....:-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good script not reaching potential,
The script of this film is actually quite colorful, probably as it was adapted from stage. However the production on film falls somewhat short of its potential. The lack of clear plot progression could have been forgiven if the characters were better developed, but less stereotyped and seemingly one dimensional. There are quite a few entaining scenes, especially the eventual mishappen 'heist'. The consumption of beer and a predominantly male audience will enhance the film's entertainment value.

Well, I finally watched this last night after having wanted to see it for ages. Disappointment is the only word I can use to sum up my feeling for this film. It wasn't, in my opionion, funny, with only one scene making me chuckle slightly. I wouldn't even go as far to say that it was engaging and despite it only being 100 minutes long, I found myself bored of it half way through and not caring whether or not the all too similar characters succeeded in their mission.
