The collection of tracks on this CD is pretty good but it may be a bit jarring to those unfamiliar with Bathory, the reason being there were quite a number of varying styles covered on the first six albums and that's from where the majority of these tracks were derived. There is pounding extreme metal in the form of Golden Walls, which is one of the most effective thrash/black songs ever recorded using perfect tempo changes along with whirlwind guitar solos and dark melody, slower Viking metal as with Shores in Flames and Bond of Blood, right next to Satanic Black Metal like Possessed and Total Destruction.
There is at least one track from each of the first six albums but also some rare gems: The Return..., the original recording of the second album's title track that once appeared on the Scandinavian Metal Attack sampler (that helped get the band going), Burnin Leather - this 1987 track utilises the sound that was to become Blood Fire Death but is altogether a less aggressive and more traditional speed metal song as you'll be able to tell comparing it to the aforementioned Golden Walls of Heaven. There is also something close to what was on the first album: Die in Fire, a similarly produced black metal piece that was quite original for its time.
There are two types of people who will want this album: Bathory nuts, primarily for the rare/previously unreleased tracks, and people who want to hear what the band sound like (or already know but don't want all of the albums). A more consistent offering than Jubileum Vol 1 and 3.
