In the short movie Donald In Mathmagic Land, Donald plans on going hunting, but accidentally enters Mathmagic Land. Having no idea where he was, seeing as how the trees seriously have "square roots," and where you might see one or two odd charachers from Alice In Wonderland, such as the bird with a pencil for a head, and the mome raths, he probably thought that he had gone looney! But the spirit of math kindly tells him were he is, and they embark on an adventure through time, to discover the possibilities of mathematics. In the short movie Ben And Me,a little mouse voiced by Sterling Holloway, meets Ben Franklin, and together, discover electricity, which just proves that Disney isn't the only one in history that had something to do with a mouse...

The Disney Fables collection brings together a series of shorter Disney films which whilst not given the exposure of their feature length productions does illustrate the quality of their animation and storytelling.

The entire series is excellent.

A nice DVD but almost original in sound quality so not brilliant with today's technology. Still nice stories to be enjoyed though.

As well as full blown collector's editions of their shorts in the guise of the Walt Disney Treasures sets, Disney has been releasing compilations of classic shorts and featurettes in single-disc, hour-long sets. The shorts featured in this particular series are supposedly themed to classic tales, though only one on this set seems to only just qualify, with the other two being original fantasies starring Donald. The closest to the realm of storybookland is the charming "Ben and Me", which is joined by Donald's adventures in the psychedelic and educational special "Donald in Mathmagicland" and the funny short "Modern Inventions".

I highly respect these kiddy-aimed DVDs featuring classic Disney material, as they help introduce kids to vintage gold as opposed to some of the dreck that kids are subject to watching today. Aside from that, I think that I might only recommend this as a rental. First of all, these shorts have or will be released in a better shape (digitally restored as opposed to sourced from old VHS and laserdisc transfers) in the Walt Disney Treasure sets. Secondly, there's the issue of value for money. The RRP of this 51 minute set is £12.99, as opposed to the four or more hours that one would find on a Treasures set for a RRP of £21.99 or so; of course, online, you can get either type of set for less (as long as they are in print; many of the Treasure sets were available for a limited time only, and a good number were also only available in North America).

Overall, this set may be worth a rent or as a fun stocking filler for Christmas. Other than that, I would personally just get a better set.

With all the new cartoons going around currently, Disney's classics such as these are always a big hit with the kids.
