5.0 out of 5 stars French soft rock at its finest, 9 Feb 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Le Chemin (Audio CD)
Kyo look set to clear up in the 2004 French music awards - nominated for more gongs than you can shake a stick at for this album. Its great - the first 3 tracks in particular are exceptional - Le Chemin, Je cours, Derniere Danse. Like all good soft rocks their lyric cover the broad range of teenage angst-ridden issues - isolation, love, heartbreak. Even if you don't speak French, you're likely to enjoy this album - there's good variety of tempo, catchy riffs, which means you'll find yourself singing along, even if you don't know what you're actually saying! If you do know a bit of French, I think you're likely to agree that the lyrics of Derniere Danse are an absolutely wonderful example of French bitter-sweet outlook on love and life, and very potent with it. Musically very enjoyable, lyrically strong - a great CD to sing along to and brush up on your French at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, 20 April 2004
This review is from: Le Chemin (Audio CD)
This album is completely amazing and EVERYONE should buy it. The songs are amazing and Benoit has a fantastic voice. I'm trying to spread the word to all my friends as this is a band not to be missed. My personal favourites change all the time but between the rock heavy Je Cours, the beautiful Derniere Danse, the emotion filled Je Saigne Encore and the atmospheric Tout Reste A Faire (sung buy the lead guitarist Florian) there is something for everyone. I listen to this album every day and would not be without it. I'm half French so I mostly understand the words but this is for everyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars French and depressive rock, 28 Feb 2011
This review is from: Le Chemin (Audio CD)
Kyo is a French group of rock. Very very soft rock.

There are two types of songs in this album :

- The commercial ones about love, breaking up and being left. The lyrics are completly industrialised and the music flirts with pop. They have absolutely nothing special (in my opinion) and have been writen exclusively in order to get the average mass to buy the cd.

- The personnal ones about being bullied at school, God, wanting to suicide, forgiving those who hurt us. The lyrics are both extremelly deep and extremelly dark. Sometimes, you have very good puns (i.e. "Marcher ensemble, sauter ensemble, Tomber ensemble, mourir ensemble, Partir en cendre, ne rien entendre, Finir en sang, Ne plus attendre"). But to understand it and appreciate it you must obviously be fluent in French. The singer is depressive. And no matter how terrible it is, you can see and feel his emotions in the writing of these particular songs.

If you don't speak French but like pop-like rock with lyrics you don't understand. This CD is made for you.

If you are fluent in French and are looking for lyrics that have a meaning, this CD is also meant for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Modern, classy French rock, 8 May 2004
By
This review is from: Le Chemin (Audio CD)
So who said the French couldn't rock? Kyo are probably the finest modern rock band of the moment, loved by both the public and the critics alike. Their breakthrough single, "Le Chemin" is included here along with their other recent singles "Derniere Danse" and "Je Cours" which are all similar variations on the same theme. That's my only criticism, that it may sound a bit samey at times, but it's good enough to last the course. Fans of Radiohead, Coldplay or Saez will find something to love here - but they have also found their own distinctive sound. Roll on the next album.
