This review is from: Glass:the Orphee Suite (Audio CD)
Another welcome release from Glass's own label, Orange Mountain music. The main featured work is the Orphee Suite transcribed from the 90's Glass opera. This features some unusual Ragtime-influenced scoring that should confound his critics, as well as his hallmark arpeggios and chords that fans have come to expect. The rest of the disc features the Trilogy Sonata derived from Glass's portrait operas and Epilogue from the digital opera 'Monsters of Grace'. Overall the stand out tracks are the heartbreaking track 2, Orphees Bedroom and the sinuous track 11 Epilogue from 'Monsters of Grace'.
All the works are performed with authority by Paul Barnes, and taken as a whole this is a welocme addition to the Glass catalogue, confirming his palce as the preeminent composer of his generation.
