5.0 out of 5 stars Seventies Americana, 12 Jan. 2007
This review is from: Daytrippers [1998] [DVD] (DVD)
Daytrippers is essentially a roadtrip about a family slowly suffocating under an overbearing mother. It's razor sharp and driven by fantastic performances...the script helps; all of the characters - even those that are just simple cameos - are brilliantly observed, incredibly detailed and well drawn. Some of the dialogue blew my socks off and was, I thought, reminiscent of, and as good as, anything by Woody Allen or the Coen Brothers. Daytrippers could have been made in the seventies, it has a vibe that we just don't see has that feel that made America feel special and glamorous all those years ago - something they completely lost in the eighties and never got back. A rare treat.
