HD750 CD, 22 Aug 2003
By A Customer
I bought this machine in desperation! My NAD player had fallen to bits just out of guarantee and I needed a replacement, quick. I have tried most of the major manufacturers, most recently NAD and have been disappointed by build quality in most of them. The HD750 CD seems robust compared to those I have used, with the tray assembly, this is the part that fell off my old deck, solid as a rock. I had never heard of Harman Kardon so it was a shot in the dark for me but what the hell, I had been let down by major manufacturers so why not? After listening to it in the shop, not under ideal conditions I looked forward to hearing it at home. I was not disappointed; the sound is so clean there is a noticeable difference from other decks I have listened to. With the HDCD facility and a HD CD in the tray the sound is even more impressive. Might not suit everyone as the sound is accurate with no coloration, I know my partner thinks it sounds 'clinical' but that's just what I like! I rarely use tone controls and depend on my amp to do justice to the recording without artificial enhancements. The programable functions are extensive but IMO a little excessive though I'm sure there are those that will use them. On the whole a very nice bit of mid-range kit.
