What a great new musical. At last a new British musical to rival those coming out of the US (Arhens & Flaherty, Finn, Wildhorn).
George Stiles and Anthony Drewe have been around for a number of years now, but have struggled to break through. If this show does not make them a popular name among musical afficianadoes, and AmDram societies, i'll eat my beak. Drewe's lyrics create a wonderfully characterized world in the farmyard. Yes, everything is very stylized and even a little stilted, but there are no human characters. All the lyrics relate to the animal and the moment they represent. And George Stiles' music perfectly compliments this other world, mixing styles, and matching moods well.
A wonderful Everyman Tale - Ugly, the duckling, ridiculed by father & brother, rejected by family friends for his appearance, journeys through danger to discovery of his actual inheritance - as a beautiful swan - perfectly portrayed through words and music - and an absolutley first rate cast from the original NT production.
Any musical theatre enthusiast MUST have this show in their collection!!

We are currently working on HONK as our end of year show in college and the soundtrack is amazing. The show is the story of the ugly duckling yet told in a fresh and new way, it is a whitty yet Poignant musical with a strong moral. If you get a chance to see it then GO AND SEE IT. THIS IS A MUST HAVE SOUNDTRACK!
