4.0 out of 5 stars It's all good.
Keith Murray, although not a big name in Hip-hop, has had a fairly rough time of late. Having handed himself into the police and served a 3 year sentence, been released and then parted from his label Def Jam, his life has been a rollercoaster ride for a very long time now. Keith Murray, although not a big name in Hip-hop, has had a fairly rough time of late. Having handed himself into the police and served a 3 year sentence, been released and then parted from his label Def Jam, his life has been a rollercoaster ride for a very long time now. However, amidst all this drama, he has managed to release an album. Will the stress of his life mean the album is half-done, or is it true how they say that deep in the mind is where you find the deepest treasures?
Keith Murray's rapping style is very unique. He can perform deep lyrics as well as he can perform comic lyrics. He almost sounds like he's singing at times. If yuo want a feel of how he sounds, imagine Redman, with a slightly less squeaky tone.
This album has a very Redman feel to it - produced by Def Squad's Erick Sermon, you'd pretty much expect it to.
The album kicks off with The Carnage, a harcore style song with a vicious, hard-hitting feel to it. This is a good song, although not easy listening.
The album carries on with Oh My Goodness and Yeah Yeah U Know It, both of which are above average but nothing remarkable.
Candibar is a nice change from the flow of the album before it - it’s a ncie easy song with instant appeal.
Christina tells the story of a girl with the same name as the song. Fairly good, but not the best on the album.
Sucka Free is one of my favourite songs on the album, it just works.
Say Whattt is again another good song, with Redman providing a chorus and some really good production.
Da Badunk song will have it’s fans, who i am one of, but many people will feel this track doesn’t compare with the rest of the album.
Swagger Back is the weakest piece on the whole album.
On Smash is the second best song on the album, it buzzes from the presence of Murray and Busta, with Kell Vicious along for the ride as well.
The album ends with Child of the Streets, the deepest piece on the album.
This album is good. There’s nothing mind-blowingly good here, but it’s a nice little collection of songs by a rapper who proves here that he can be very versatile. This album is definitely worth picking up at the right price.
