10 tracks on Ed Rush & Optical's "The Original Doctor Shade" which seem to switch and change from their more recognised work on "Wormhole".

It's hard to give a concise conclusion to this album as it dips in and out of various styles and even the dnb genre it's known for. A mixed bag it certainly is and the recognised style of dnb that "Wormhole" signafied seems to have been lost slightly.

The dark, sci fi ambience that existed with Wormhole seems to have been pushed back for more bpm, mcing and energy this time. The first track "Why?" has the familiar bass warble once the beats get going but everything else seems to point to a twist of familiarity.

"Hacksaw" is an intense, seismic, dancefloor melter that optimises Ed Rush & Optical's ear for gripping rhythm and rolling beat patterns. "Get ill" and "Goodfoot" are also a good examples of this.

The last track totally throws familiarity out the window as inclusion of tech house music knocks your expectations sideways. It's not a bad track but it's impact is slightly tainted compared to the rolling energy conveyed by their dnb productions.

There is obvious styles of diversity here from track to track and maybe experimentation from the duo. It is a worthy addition to the Virus collection as there will be love and hate here on your own preferences in dnb. Consistency that "Wormhole" offered is gone in favour of more variety here, but what love you do find here being a true dnb fan should be enough to make this album worthwhile.

This album is wicked! From the first track right to the last it keeps you interested. All the tracks have loads going on, packed with synth sounds, bass and constructive breaks. Why is by far the best rack on the album. If you love the rave style drum and bass thats energetic and lively this album will definately suite you.

Dont know what they were thinking with this album, ed rush and optical are up there with my fav producers of all time, i have listened to dnb for years and believe me this is some of their worst work.
What happened to the dark sci fi heavy bouncy 2 step?
i give honest reviews and dont talk up albums just because of the name, i suspect if you asked them er & o would agree that this album it not their best
i dont really like even 1 tune, most are ok at best.
buy travel the galaxy or wormhole, then buy their singles like gas mask/bacteria, sick note, medicine etc. Dont buy this its dnb going through a bad patch!

Fantastic. Darkside not for the liquid fans. Great from start to finish. A great buy with a low price, I remember is cd cost £18 years ago. I wish the new school was like this.

I was in a quandary, sifting through all these reviews here, whether to buy this CD or not. I bought it and i am tremendously elated with this purchase. The blokes have created the funkiest drum and bass I have ever heard from them. Buy it with no hesitation.

Excellent. What cant i say about this album. Deep dark basslines, trippy tunes, wicked beats. Ed rush and optical really own it when it comes to producing. Although i reccomend buying vynil so u can mix em up. If u like Drum and bass and especially if uve got decks, ur gonna treasure this album.
