5.0 out of 5 stars What a plan!, 22 Jun. 2011
This review is from: The Planman [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
Like all good thrillers, there has to be many twists and turns, enough so that although there is an ending and outcome you hope for, you are never sure if you will get there.

This is both typical and atypical Robbie Coltrane, he is a shambling seedy lawyer, with a staggering eye for detail... just like this plot. The acting is of course superb, from a truly supportive cast. Even the baddies are great! You can't help identifying with some more than others, and the amalgamation of many obviously regional actors just makes the juxtapositioning even more accidentally funny. It doesn't take too much imagination to see these scenes really being played out.

The storyline is intricate, fast paced and completely absorbing. How can you not enjoy this, if you like taut scenes, in the very best British style?

More of this type of drama/thriller, please!

During a break from Cracker, Robbie Coltrane is on familar territory ~ its difficult to difguise that amazing girth! ~ this time as whizkid lawyer who knows he could commit much more intelligent crimes than those he is paid to defend. All it takes is planning. As the Planman of the title he engages the "brightest" crooks in the country to do the deed ( there are some hilarious stereotypes among them)and after more plot twists and turns than usual for such a TV product the viewer can not but admire the whole project and may even decide that crime might pay.

In keeping with his "Cracker" persona, Robbie Coltrane plays a smart lawyer with a unscrupulous mind for planning "hypothetical" crimes. This story keeps you guessing right to end, so I'm not going to spoil it for anyone. Suffice to say that if you enjoyed the "Cracker" series, this film will not disappoint. :)
