5.0 out of 5 stars Be Seen, Not Obscene, 4 Jun 2003
This review is from: Gay Bar [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Gay Bar. Even the words themselves invoke images of too-tight leather trousers and floppy-hands. Not to be stereotypical (which, I fear, is what I am being right now), Gay Bar is all of this and more. The sheer attitude of the single itself sums up why it is so popular. Or, from a musical point of view, the catchy guitar riffs and sometimes obscene lyrics (e.g. "I've got something to put in you...at the Gay Bar") mixed with Dick Valentine's sexy-pitched vocals 'do it' (bad expression) for the listener. Similarities appear between 'Danger! High Voltage', Electric Six's pervious chart-topper and the soon-to-be chart topper 'Gay Bar' are apparent. Again, the cathcing riff is present, along with simple yet humerous lyrics. Together with (yet again) a very OTT video (for those of you who are unfortunate not to have seen it, let me just say a couple of words: Dick Valentine as a half-naked Abraham Lincoln, pole-dancing), the Electric Six look set to be rock 'n' roll kings. And, with they're album 'Fire' due out on 30th June 2003, you can be sure that they'll want to take you to a gay bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've got something to put in you!, 13 May 2003

How do they get away with it?
If any of you have seen the video that features Dick Valentine dressed as Abraham Lincoln in rubber hotpants you'll know what to expect. It's more electro-camp in the style of 'Danger!' and once again it has a ferocious funkiness that will keep it being played long after the appeal of a novelty record has worn off. I'm really looking forward to the Bsides as 'Remote Control' on the Bside of their last single was absolute class.
So, do you have any money?!

5.0 out of 5 stars I got something to put in you......., 14 May 2003
This review is from: Gay Bar [CD 1] (Audio CD)
A single first released earlier this year. This is a striking disco/punk anthem which moves away from the one hit wonder "unusual lyrics" songs as the band can play and have a strange hypnotic quality!! In the same upbeat fashion as the (slightly european sounding) Danger High Voltage. The Electric Six (formerly known as the Wildbunch) have proved beyond a doubt a sleazy disco pimp frontman, a rock and roll indian and others.

5.0 out of 5 stars "GAY BAR" - WHAT A GREAT SINGLE!, 16 Jun 2003

This I thought was of complete ingenious. Although it bears some similarities to Danger! High Voltage. They seem to like sticking to two words in each line. First single being ofcourse 'danger, danger'. Now 'Gay bar, gay bar'. Quite odd I thought, but energetic and catchy too. This is where pop and rock really is it. And here's to many more of electric six's outrageous and extremelly wacky videos, combined with the strangest and yet amusing of lyrics on this planet!
