The masque of madragora is a true who classic from the tom baker era. Filmed in and around ' the village ' from the prisoner. The doctor gets off to a flying start tracking the masque to the 15th century france. After a showdown he beats the masque energy and sends it back to space. Liz sladen is brilliant as sarah jane smith as ever with a lot of humour and fun. It's just a pity k-9 isn't in this story !.The only let down are the very limited special effects , but for 1976 it still has a charm of it's own.

Not a classic Tom Baker story by any means, but well crafted, well acted on the whole and with the fine use of location footage at Portmeirion. It plainly isn't really in Italy as everyone looks freezing during the location footage! Even the usually embarrassing effects are surprisingly good.
