4.0 out of 5 stars Return of the Crue, 7 Dec 2008

This largely overlooked album is really rather good. It's a clear sign that the band's seen the light. With years of titilating MTV with saucy videos and catchy bubblegum rock, but here they're right back sounding a bit like they did at the start. It sounds a bit contrived a couple of times, but it's Crue, not Beethoven. One of their better albums and a sign that the true return to form, Saints... was on the way.

With a change of line up for New Tattoo (Randy Castillo replacing Tommy Lee and Vince Neil returning for a Second album replacing John Corabi) some thought Motley crue's sound would change but with Nikki Sixx still at the songwriting helm that wasn't the case, the songs are still catchy as the songs from the band's 80's hayday and randy castillo's drumming is as good as Tommy Lee's if not better.
Not only does Nikki Sixx write all the songs with collaboration with the other band members but he also collaborated with fellow Sixx:AM member James Micheal on five songs on this album.

My personal favourite songs from this album are:-

Hell on High Heels
New Tattoo
Dragstrip Superstar
Fake
Porno Star

if you're thinking of buying this album then i'd recommend you look for the remastered version with the bonus disc recorded live in Salt Lake City as it is value for money

10/10

Great album from the Crue. Not the origiinal line up but still making great rock. Catchy tunes which sound as good as any of their previous albums. You won't regret having this in your CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good time rock n roll!, 24 Oct 2013

A terrific rock album by the Crue! full of smutty lyrics rife with innuendo, great guitar riffs, drumming and good songs! It opens with the supercharged 'Hell on high heels', a nice catchy rock track that reminded this listener of AC DC in the vocal delivery. Following on from that is 'Treat me like the dog I am' a self explanatory title that contains some great drumming by Randy Castillo (sadly now departed). The pace is then slowed down with the title track, a nice rock ballad that tugs on the heartstrings (to this listner echoing Bon Jovi) which could have a double meaning in that it could be interpreted as the singers love for a woman or rock n roll in general hinted at in the back of the sleeve notes. The pace is then sped up with the heavy but catchy 'Dragstrip superstar' (again self explanatory if you listen to the lyrics).

The song 'She needs rock n roll' is a good rock n roll anthem with a nice guitar riff. The acoustic led song 'Hollywood ending' is another nice ballad that has a bluesy feel to it. I also like 'Fake' with its jab at the executive suits at the record labels and is semi-autobiographical with lines like "Spent a million dollars on amphetamines". 'Porno star' is an uptempo punk rocker that tells the story of someone addicted to internet porn with girls making moaning noises in the background, marvelous :-)

The album closes with the cover of The Tubes 1975 hit 'White punks on dope' which finishes the album nicely describing a tale of a middle class surburban kid doing drugs in rebellion. So a very good album and although it only reached no.41 on the Billboard 200 (their lowest placing since their debut), it doesn't matter as this should be picked up by anyone who likes good time rock n roll as this listener does!

New material with a touch of the old style and class. Loved this one so wasn't disappointed by the gamble of not hearing any of if before buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crue are back, this time they are lean and CLEAN!!!, 9 Jun 2001
The past 20 years has taken its toll on the Crue, and after the awful album they produced after they replaced Vince Neil, it seemed like they were doomed. But Vince is back and this album kicks ass. Nikki Sixx has matured as a writer but still uses real life experiences of the band as material for the songs. Dragstrip Superstar is typical Crue, it is sleazy and rocking, my favourite is Porno Star. There is a fantastic cover of 'White punks on dope' as well. I've been a Motley Crue fan since I was 9 back in 82 and I rate this album very highly. I just hope they tour the UK again to back this album up. Messrs Neil, Lee Mars & Sixx are still Rock gods, (even if they have cleaned up their lifestyle).
