5.0 out of 5 stars Must buy British tv comedy. Excellent.
Well worth waiting nearly a year after the initial advertised release date - a lot of work has gone into this DVD set of the complete 1972 series, 16 episodes.
Network Video have done an excellent job at restoration and the images are very clean and bright. Half of the episodes have extra material added. In addition there are many outtakes.
See Peter Sellars...

4.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a 1970s series, 15 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Sykes - The First Colour Series [DVD] [1972] (DVD)
Sykes may not be a sitcom most modern audiences would gravitate towards, but if you're a big fan of 1970s and 1980s comedy, it's definately worth a watch even if it's not on the same level as classics like Fawlty Towers and Blackadder. Written and staring Eric Sykes, it follows Sykes and his sister Harriet dealing with many problems with comical consequences usually involving their neighbour Charles Brown and the town policeman Corcky Turnbull.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sykes : Eric and Hattie, 17 Jan. 2014

Astonishingly well restored, this series is a delight for those who remember it first time round.
And I suspect younger viewers will enjoy watching with and listening to Grandad chuckling.
It's gentle funny domestic comedy and the rapport between Eric and Hattie is heart-warming.
Even more so in the out-takes. An awful lot of comedy talent went into these shows. Enjoy !

5.0 out of 5 stars Sykes, 18 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Sykes - The First Colour Series [DVD] [1972] (DVD)
Could there have been a better decade of sit-coms then the 1970-80's? In my opinion, NO.

Eric Sykes was and still is one of England's finest and much loved comedy actors. He appears in all of the 'Sykes' series with another much loved actress called 'Hattle Jacques'. This British comedy at its best. Least we never forget the glory years of the prime television....

Item arrived in very good time and well packaged! I haven't seen this series since it first aired in the 1970s and it hasn't dated or lost any of its charm and is as hilarious now as it was then. I especially enjoyed the special features which include some insights into the making of some of the programmes, which make viewing even funnier!
