I bought this album having not heard a note by An - comparisons to Tori Amos were enough for me. Having now had HELIUM SUNSET for a few months, I can see that such comparisons have some grounding, although I personally think the only strong comparison lies in them both using piano as their lead instrument.

An's work is far more accessible than Tori. Tori can be a lot darker than the songs put forward by An on HELIUM SUNSET. Although I love piano tracks, HELIUM SUNSET gains a lot by including a full band. It certainly gives the songs a deeper sense of meaning and a richer body. The close of "Medusa" illustrates this point brilliantly, as the instrumentation creates a strange, otherworldly feel to the song, adding to its mystery and magic. An also has a great talent for writing lyrics that are original and get their point across very quickly. The title to my review is taken from "Nobody's Fault", a song which is about not treating your partner with respect; although you confess to 'being weak' and playing games, you continually try to make them see that its not your fault.

For people who enjoy less mainstream music, HELIUM SUNSET should be a hit. If you do enjoy it, look out for her other albums, MUD STORIES and WHITE VELVET.

Helium Sunset is a brilliantly constructed masterpiece, by any standard.Sonically,it toys with simplicity, as a playfull introduction to many of it's songs, before they unfold into

a complex tapestry of human relationships and feelings.

Musically complex and compelling,it is an achingly beautiful album that draws influence, to this listeners ears, from,

Kate Bush,Tori Amos and,"Dreamland" era,Robert Plant,
