3.0 out of 5 stars More cool than good
Being a collector and a massive Sepultura and Strapping Young Lad fan, I had to have this. Sadly it didn't meet my expectations, but is still enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metallica/sepultura/Exodus/SYL on one disc, 28 Feb 2003
This review is from: Ir8 Vs. Sexoturica (Audio CD)
This disc includes 2 projects as suggested by the title, these are IR8 including jason Newsted [formerly of metallica] on bass and voice, tom Hunting [Exodus]on drums and Devin Townsend [SYL]on guitar. The second half of the disc is by Sexoturica and that includes Jason Newsted on bass and voice, Andreas Kisser [sepultura] on guitar and tom hunting on drums, hence the name from sepultura+ Exodus+Metallica=Sexoturica.
Both projects were recorded about a year apart in jasons studio, The Chophouse. The overall summation of the sound is thrash metal verging on death metal. The sound is more sepultura than metallica
although those familiar with jasons live vocals in metallica will love the ferocity displayed here. IR8 starts with the thumping Collosuss which lyrically is about nuclear destruction followed by
the track "Nothing", which is pure brutal anger with the chorus of
"you are nothing" litrally spat in your face. Devin Townsend really masters the ultra heavy throbbing guitar on these and the final IR8 track black on black.
Sexoturica starts with the most melodic track on the disc the rocking "Alone", followed by the absolute classic, "Zone of death" which is a slower tempo very heavy proggressive piece.
Huntings drums are enormous throughout and the final track dead soul at sleep showcases this well with heaviness abounding.
Overall fans of anything like metallica, sepultura or Exodus must add this to their collection, it shows a great collaboration between metal stalwarts not to be missed.

2.0 out of 5 stars So were METALLICA in the right?, 9 Jun 2003

Yes, ok so it's an E.P. featuring Jason Newsted on vocals. It could be anyone, he does not have the prowess of his ex-band's frontman. Who can't growl down a mic? COLOSSUS is a good track, but then you've listened to every song on this E.P.
I really wanted this E.P. to see how Devin Townsend and Newsted worked together. I'm a fan of the flamboyant Townsend and was deeply disappointed that this doesn't get out of first gear.
If you're a fan then you're going to get this to find out what its like. Save your money, as soon as you hear one song you might as well eject it.
