5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning
Voivod have always been the forgotten heroes of metal, releasing a steady stream of classy , innovative albums throughout the eighties and nineties. 3.0 out of 5 stars A strange story and a metal CD
I'm simply amazed that Jason Newsted is bankrolling Voivod with his Metallicash. It's a pity that this CD, while being excellent metal, does not contain songs as anywhere near as strong as the outstanding "Nothingface".

Voivod have always been the forgotten heroes of metal, releasing a steady stream of classy , innovative albums throughout the eighties and nineties. Forging a unique style of their own they became hugely acclaimed without ever really breaking through. Here, with their first album for 5 years, featuring not only original ( and best ) vocalist Snake but also ex Metallica bassist Jason Newsted they are on superb form, their best material since classics such as Dimension Hatross and Nothingface. Difficult to pigeonhole, Voivod can best be described as a punky thrash, delivering heavy, slabbing riffs and infectious choruses. Mid nineties albums saw them adopt a more prog rock feel but this is more in the vein of earlier releases and is all the more welcome for it. A stunning return to form by one of metals all time legends. Buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Voivod are back, 18 Mar. 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Voivod (Audio CD)
After a couple of, in my opinion, weaker albums than usual with a competent but different singer, Voivod Mark III is here! With Snake and new boy Jasonic (Jason Newstead no less) they have found their way back to form. There hasn't been a better pure METAL album in ages. These 'nu metal' bands could learn a thing or two from this album. All tracks are great. I can't flaw the album! The guitar riffs are awesome... We carry on. Voivod re-invented. Voivod are back. Can't wait to see them on tour! With Jasons backing (his money, his record label and his name) Voivod should finally get the recognition they deserve. Afterall... this is album no 13. How many bands can say they've done that?

Fresh! Clever! Listenable! Enjoyable!
Ok gonna keep this short and sweet cos I aint gonna bore you guys to death. Long-time Voivod fan here, love all their previous stuff (long live Newsted by the way!) but this, this album is absolutely awesome. Gotta admit it will probably take a few listens to really get wot's going on. But hey, this is Voivod we're discussing here and they always were on a different plane to the mainstream, commerialised stuff that we're being continually bombarded with these days on Satellite TV. Don't look too deep and you'll be pleasantly suprised. Warning! TRUE ARTISTS at work! Long live the VOIVOD!!!

Yes the great psychotic space rockin VOIVOD is back, and captain SNAKE is singing, shouting, screaming ! This is -The Outer Limits Vol.2-!!! I think all VOIVOD Fans are lucky to hear Snake back on the VOIVOD-Starship. This Album rocks like a Tornado, forgot the bad-sad Phobos&Negatron Albums - the real rockin Voivod is back. All songs are very heavy and like the good old stuff from the '80s-'90s - so -------CARRY ON------- VOIVOD RUELZ, welcome back to the VOIVOD-NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff..., 19 Mar. 2003
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Voivod (Audio CD)
I'm a big fan of old and new Voivod and this is just a great cd. The first song just kicks in with great catchy rythmn guitars, the 2 nd song is like the older Nothing Face Voivod and is just, wow!
This is a great buy and even if you are not sure, it's still worth being in your collection.

2.0 out of 5 stars Never go back?, 6 Mar. 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Voivod (Audio CD)
Have Voivod become the first metal band in the world to be their own tribute band? The review mentions that this is a young-sounding album. Quite right. It sounds just like a high school rock band playing Voivod covers, only with all the complicated bits taken out. Anyone expecting a return to their late eighties form is going to be very disappointed. Is this an attempt to enter the mainstream, or are they just trading on their well-deserved reputation for innovation in albums past? Are they attempting to become "Nu Metal"? Whatever the cause, the effect is not really worthy of such creative musicians.
