5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album, 9 Jun 2006
This review is from: Cewbeagappic (Audio CD)
If you know of Beady Belle or even if you have come to this page by accident I guarantee you that this is one of the best albums you will hear. The quality of the lyrics, production and voice of the lead singer are mindblowing. Its like listening to melted chocolate in stereo with extra cream speakers. The fusion of many genres of music and intelligent lyrics that do what most of todays songs don't - paint pictures in your mind.

You won't be disappointed in this album or their new "Closer" album. I just can't think of anything negative to say about it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sophomore effort, 17 Jun 2003

Strange looking at the genre that is displayed on my PC media player for Beady Belle which has them as Jazz vocal. Certainly they have drawn influences from Jazz in their music but anyone that has heard their first album Home certainly wouldn't put it in the Jazz section of a music store. That is one of the great things about Beady Belle is that they are hard to classify and this is what makes them refreshingly different.
On this, their second album there is perhaps a bit more variation in the songs and the album has a mid-tempo, slower tempo song alternation. Not that this detracts from the album as you just get carried around on a great sound. There are also a couple of nice interludes interspersed throughout the album which nicely breaks it up.
CEWBEGAPPIC is a strange acronym which aptly describes the album. Complex, Easy, White, Black, Electronic, Acoustic, Groovy, Ambient, Programmed, Played, Improvised and Composed as described by Beady Belle and lets the listener know what they should expect. The album itself still maintains an organic feel despite having all of these various styles, blended together.
It might take a couple of listens to fully appreciate the sound, if you haven't heard them before but it is certainly worth it and with plenty of songs to get stuck into such as Bella, Hindsight, One and Only, Shadow and April Fool.
Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beady Belle CEWBEAGAPPIC - great second album, 20 Dec 2011

Beady Belle
CEWBEAGAPPIC
(Jazzland 2003)

The second Beady Belle album sees the group settle more rather than throw brilliant ideas around as in their debut. This is no problem, since we are treated with some wonderful songs, filled with the most perfect jazz phrasing and poppy riffs. Further influences are expressed apart from the Latin and techno jazz of Home (as heard in "One And Only" and infectious "Bella"), such as dub reggae effects in "Big Balloon". The only particular weak point is in "Shadow", which has a beautiful verse but lacklustre chorus.

This very satisfying second instalment is a well-rounded affair indeed.
