This Sony Essential Classics CD contains two works by Cesar Franck; the Symphony in D Minor and the Symphonic Variations for Piano and Orchestra. The orchestra is the Vienna Philharmonic, recorded live in June 1993 for the symphony, with Paul Crossley on piano in the variations. Excellent recordings.
I can't recommend this recording of the symphony as it is just far too slow. Compared to, say, the classic 1957 Charles Munch/Boston Symphony Orchestra recording, Giulini takes 21.30 in the Lento compared to 16.55, 12.21 in the Allegretto compared to 9.24, and 12.50 in the Allegro compared to 10.12. It feels crawlingly slow!
The Munch recording is best bought in a garishly packaged French Sony/RCA release from a few years back Boston Symphony Orchestra, as you get several other French orchestral works in the 2-CD package, all of which bear repeated listening.
Like me, you might play Giulini once or twice and then consign it to the shelf! Not recommended.
